I was immediately drawn to this unusual brass lion sculpture. Wonderfully imaged, this brass lion has interesting primitive anthropomorphic facial features and a stylized mane.

From a world traveler's estate, I am unsure of the lion's provenance. The piece has no markings, but clearly looks handmade. The seller's best guess was that her father acquired it on a business trip to Asia back in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

The lion is in very good vintage condition.

An Attempt to Discriminate the Styles of Architecture in England from the Conquest to the Reformation: With a Sketch of the Grecian and Roman Orders by Thomas Rickman (1776–1841) is a substantial and important architectural reference book. The book is also known as "Rickman's Gothic Architecture."

Beginning with a overview of Roman and Greek influences, Rickman goes on to detail English architecture from the time of the Norman Conquest (1066) to English Reformation (1547). Richly illustrated with detailed drawings and engraved plates, the book is a delight to see and read. Rickman was a successful architect of Anglican churches and an authority on Gothic architecture.

This is the sixth edition of the book published in 1862 "with considerable additions, chiefly historical, by John Henry Parker, F.S.A." The antique book is in its original quarter leather binding. The binding is tight and the leather is in good condition with typical wear at the edges and corners. The decorative binding has gold detailing and lettering on the spine. The front cover cloth shows wear (see photograph three). There is soiling on the page edges at the top right corner. Paper is yellowing consistent with age of the book. Former owners name and address written in pencil in front of book.

In the days before digital computer lettering, graphic artists, engineers, & architects relied on sets such as this vintage Keuffel & Esser Leroy lettering kit to hand letter consistent and precise letters & numbers. This particular set dates from the 1950s and comes in its original mahogany box.

The set is not complete. It is missing the scriber & some pen points. It comes with the fixed scriber or stylus, but I do not believe this is the one original to this set as it does not fix perfectly into the stylus slot, thus preventing the box lid from closing snuggly.

The set comes with 11 letters & number stencils, 10 of which are double sided. The stencils are very cool! They do show wear and have ink marks and stains on them.

The kit's original instruction sheet is pasted onto the inside box lid and has partially torn way. Someone marked the top of the box with a 3-inch long piece of masking tape stating "This set ok 11/13/??." The masking tape is very difficult to pry off. As this is the condition I found the box in, I will leave it up to you to remove the tape if you care to. The mahogany wood box shows wear particularly on the box lid corners. The box has a two hinge front closures.

Box measures 15 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 1 3/4"

Written by "A Redemptorist Father," this Christian pamphlet outlines the dangers of breaking the Sixth and Ninth Commandments. The booklet is in excellent vintage condition, has a stapled binding, and a very cool retro angel graphic cover.

Vintage War War 2 era venereal disease propaganda poster designed by Leonard Karsakov, this original lithograph was produced by the Federal Security Agency U.S. Public Health Service and printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1944.

Designed for display in the U.S. military arena and common soldier r & r outposts, this poster is one in a series produced during WW II to warn service men against prostitution and the ravishments of venereal & other sexual transmitted diseases (STD), in this case, syphilis and gonorrhea.

This is an original War War II era poster, not a reproduction.

18.1 x 14.1 in. (46 x 36 cm)

Recently acquired from a professional graphic artist's collection, the poster was stored flat in a climate-controled studio and is in remarkable condition. It has very minor wear around the edges as shown in the photographs.

Vintage hand-carved Scottie dog, this cutie has black bead eyes and a sweet expression.

The Scottish Terrier's image was a very popular motif on all sorts of items in the 1930s & 40s, from a Monopoly game board piece, to bookends, and jewelry.

Vintage Halloween glassware, this curious black cat shot glass exclaims "Good Luck." As two howling black cats fight under a full orange moon, a man shouting expletives throws a shoe at the felines. Quite a curious scene!

Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. No cracks. Transfer graphics are bright and crisp.

This small Sowe Konst teak tray makes a big statement with its sleek mid-century modern design and beautiful wood grain. Made in Sovestad, Sweden, the wood tray is a classic example of Scandinavian design.

The tray dates from the 1950s. It is in good condition, but does show its age. There are a few darkened spots on the front of the tray and a small scratch on the back.

Tray bears the Sowe Konst hallmark and is marked "Teakwood." The piece measures approximately 8 11/16" x 3 5/8" x 1/2".

V for Varsity
V for possibly Verona, N.J.

I found this vintage varsity letter in a box of old sewing supplies at an estate sale in Verona, N.J. The varsity patch has a gold basketball medal at the base of the V.

The circa 1960s school letter was never sewn onto a sweater and is in very good vintage condition. It has a fabric tag from "The Standard Pennant Co, Big Run, PA." and some pencil notations on the back.

The burgundy chenille "V" is stitched onto a white felt backing and is ready to be sewn on a vintage or new sweater, used in a craft project, or displayed on a shelf.

The letter is approximately 8" tall x 7 1/4" at its widest point.

Sweet Fenton Glass top hat can be used as a vase, planter, candy dish or general what-not organizer. The art glass has an interesting look with Fenton's French Opalescent white interspersed with clear glass giving the piece a striped look. I think the glass top hat would look nifty filled with red and green candies for the holiday season.

The glass vase dates from the late 1930s to early 1940s. It is missing its Fenton label. The piece is in very good condition. No chips. No cracks.

This hand-turned vintage circular wooden box has a beautiful hand-painted folk art design. The piece is signed "Irvin H. Herbein."

In the mid-20th century, Irvin H. Herbein created many beautiful wood Pennsylvania Dutch folk art pieces, from trinket boxes, to pins, to housewares.

This lovely little trinket container can be used to organize small object on your desk or dresser.

Condition: The piece has a very small chip-like imperfection on the inner lip of the box bottom which does not effect the beauty of the piece. The paint shows minimal wear. Please see the photographs for more information about condition:

Once upon a time, in a not too distant past, people used notebooks such as this one to keep track of addresses and telephone numbers. "Little black books" of this sort had their own meaning, symbolizing the bachelor's telephone book filled with contact information for all his romantic conquests or potential dates.

This handy book could serve as a paper back up for your iPhone should it ever crash, and you can't retrieve the data. Or, it could just be used as a notebook.

The small book measures 4" x 2 3/4" and would easily fit in most pockets. The address telephone book is unused and in very good vintage condition with just a few signs of age on some pages. The binding is sewn and tight. The stiff cover is made out of vinyl.

I love old pencils. Don't you? I think they sharpen up nicer than newly manufactured ones. This instant collection of vintage pencil is in shades of blue, and would look cool displayed in your office. The pens have an assortment of advertising on them including Sears, Roebuck Co., Tupperware Home Parties, various plumbing businesses, & Harrison Recreation Lanes in Harrison, N.J.

Most of the pencils are graphite, but the grouping also includes an Eagle "Chem Sealed" Verithin indigo blue and two Dixon Phano china markers.

There are ten (10) pencils total. Some are sharpened, some are not. The erasers feel dry and may not work. Pencils have a varying degree of wear including nicks in the wood, paint loss, & some soiling.

Pencils range in length from 7 1/2" to about 4 1/4."

Vintage Pan Am flight bag circa early 1970s, this classic airline carry on luggage tote is the real deal. The nylon shoulder strap flight bag has Pan Am's iconic logo on each side, one front compartment, and a generous interior space.

Perfect for a weekend trip or for your everyday carry around, this bag is the ultimate in retro chic.

The flight bag has an "Natco, West Warick, R.I. U.S.A." tag sewn into the bottom interior.

Bag is in very good condition with a few minor cosmetic issues. There are a few dark spots on each side of the bag -- near the top corner on the side without the pocket and near the bottom corner on the pocket side. It's very possible that these spots will lift out with a good stain remover, but I will leave this task up to you. There are a few white marks along one side of the bag. Please see the photographs.

Although it's not marked, I'd say the blue fabric is nylon. It has a cardboard insert inside on the bottom for structure.

The flight bag measures 14" wide x 10" high x 4" deep. It has a zipper closure and an adjustable shoulder strap. Zipper works well. The bag has no holes in it.

If you're of a certain age, you know exactly what someone is talking about when they say "big eyed girl" print from the 1960s. Here's a big eyed ice skater girl with blue outfit and white muff.

The lithograph art print is dated 1964, signed "Eden," marked "Soroka Sales, Inc." and "Litho in U.S.A." The print is in good condition with some spotting on the back.

In its original plastic ivory-colored frame, this big eyed girl is ready to hang on your wall.

Russian language scrabble, this vintage board game has Cyrillic letter tiles. Printed in the U.S.A. and produced by Production & Marketing Company, Newtown, Connecticut, the game has 1948, 1949, 1953, & 1961 copyrights.

The game does not appear to have ever been played. The Cyrillic letter tiles are in their original sealed bags. Game board is in excellent condition. The game comes with 4 wooden tile stands. The wood is rough in a few spots. The box shows wear on the top and rubbing at the corners. One corner of the very sturdy box is split.

The inside box cover is printed with the complete game instructions in Russian Cyrillic.

This copy of The Little Manual of Catholic Devotions published in 1929 by Catholic Book Publishing Co, has a stamp from the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C. on its back cover.

Super tiny, the devotional prayer book measures a mere 2 3/8" x 1 7/8".

The book shows some typical wear especially around the edges. The cloth binding has a few loose threads.

Vintage Nova Scotia Tartan platter, this bone china serving piece was made in England by Royal Albert. The pink and blue Royal Albert hallmark dates the plate to circa 1962 to the 1970s.

The Nova Scotia Tartan motif is rendered in wonderful blue, green, and gold plaid ribbons with a large bow and lion crest. The small oval platter has a delicate gold trim.

The Nova Scotia Tartan was the first provincial tartan in Canada.
