This lovely set of little leather books makes a big impact on a library shelf. Part of the Coleccion Crisol Spanish language editions of beautifully bound leather books, these five volumes can start you on your collecting journey to gather all 400 volumes in the series.

These are vintage books dating from the 1940s and 1950s. Each charming volume has an attached ribbon book mark.

The books show typical wear including rubbing, minor chipping at the base of one spine, soil spots on one cover (see photograph 3). One volume has the previous owner's bookplate in the front and the other 4 books have the previous owner's name written in ink. One volume has a gift inscription.

Each book measures approximately 4 3/4" x 3 3/8".

"You Can Live Successfully In Your Lifetime" by Ben Abbott loudly proclaims its title slogan on the book's cover and spine.

Published in 1948 by Challenge Books, You Can Live Successfully was an early edition to the boom in self-help books. The vintage book is a fun read, and is a mix between good old common sense advice and pop psychology. The book would make a great graduation gift!

The bold graphics on the cover make the book a perfect display piece for your office or workshop. It's sure to be a conversation starter.

The book is vintage from 1948 and in good condition for its age showing wear around the cover edges and at the top and base of the spine. The pages are tanned with age and the previous owner make some line marks in pencil. The flaps from the book's dust jacket are present, but the remainder of it is lost to time.

Vintage 1940s Alamo Pottery planter, this robin egg blue ceramic bowl has wonderful art deco styling. Made by the Alamo Pottery company in San Antonio, TX, the planter is stamped with the studio's blue mark and number 748.

Alamo Pottery is very had to find as it was only made between 1945 & 1951. This is a beautiful example of Alamo's art pottery. Add it to your collection!

Planter is in very good condition. No chips, no cracks, no crazing. The planter was used as a planter and has a slight soil ring and some spotting on the bottom.

Measurements: 12" long x 5 3/4" wide x 3 3/8" tall.

Weathered book set of two Norman Mailer classics will not only look great on your bookshelf but are well worth the read.


Norman Mailer's The Naked and The Dead, considered one of the best novels of World War II, catapulted the 25-year-old author to literary fame upon its publication in 1948. The Rinehart symbol (an R in a circle) on the copyright page indicates that this is a 1st edition copy of this 20th-century classic. Includes a New York Herald Tribune Weekly Book Review clipping of Richard Match's May 9, 1948 review of the book. I found the clipping neatly folded between pages 642 & 643. Consequently, there is significant yellowing on these pages from prolonged contact with the clipping.

Here's a quote from this glowing review.

"'The Naked and the Dead' is about infantrymen--or, rather, men in the infantry --and the despair, the lung-searing fatigue, the unutterable terror and horror of jungle war. Its author is Norman Mailer, aged twenty-five, writing out of Brooklyn, Harvard, Leyte and Japan. Forget the age and remember the name: Norman Mailer. Vintage Lionel Train airport beacon tower would make a fun decor accent in your office, den, man cave, or in a child's room.

Produced from 1949 until about 1953 by the Lionel Corporation, No. 394 Beacon is made from aluminum and has a cool industrial look. This light beacon model is untested and is being sold "as is" as decor not a working train set accessory.

The light beacon tower shows signs of age including scratches, dents, soiling, and some green corrosion around the base. Note that there are obvious dents on the base and around the top tower rail. The beacon comes with its original light bulb. Again, please note that this model has not been tested and is being sold "as is."

Tower stands approximately 12 inches tall including the light bulb. The base is approximately 4 inches square.

Pewter clown thimble, at least I think it is a thimble, as it came in a lot of vintage thimbles and it functions as a thimble, would be a neat gift for the thimble collector or clown lover.

The thimble is marked "1985" on one of the clown's collar ruffles along with the remains of a copyright mark that is mostly worn away. The used thimble is in good condition showing light wear.

The slim antique book is filled with practical business tips. The book is visually interesting and would make a fun gift for a new college graduate or budding entrepreneur.

This is a genuine antiquarian book published in 1887. It was well used in its time and shows considerable wear including soiling on the cover, previous owner's name and address written in ink (Thomas James Lee of Bloomfield, NJ), tanned paper with some chipping at the edges, exposed binding webbing at the front and back, and an advertising page torn from the back of the book.

Put together by a team of architects and engineers, the guide book is filled with practical information still relevant today, such as site selection and home lay-out planning, as well as outdated financing information such as reference to large loans as those exceeding $8,600 but no more that $16,000.

The home planning section has illustrations of house plans with criticisms indicating a preference towards smaller homes with more open floor plans.

This is a vintage book published in 1945 not a recent reprint. The books shows signs of use and age including wear to the cover, light soiling, tanned pages, underlining and notations from a previous owner.

Striking image of a factory whistle sounds the cause of the post World War II Marshall Plan. A Dutch entry in the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living 1950 poster contest, this is an original lithograph by artist Wladimir Flem.

The European Recovery Program (ERP) or Marshall Plan (1948 - 1951), conceived by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during WW II & Truman's Secretary of State, sought to politically stabilize & rebuild the economies of war-torn European countries while hindering the spread of Communism.

A panel graphic artists, one from each of the countries benefiting from the Marshall Plan, selected 25 winning posters from over 10,000 entries. The posters are graphically stunning pieces of political propaganda and historically interesting bits of ephemera from the early Cold War era.

Published by Kofoed in 1945 and distributed by Conel Books, this treasure trove of hollywood movie star pictures includes brief biographies of the actors and actresses. Opposite each photograph is a page for fans to log in movies they're seen, where, when, stars, supporting casts, and comments.

For some reason, the publisher chose to put a not very glamorous photograph of Van Johnson on the cover.

Vintage Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway rule book dates from 1959 and includes paste-down amendments dating into the 1960s. The small pocket-size book was designed to be carried by railroad employees for easy rule reference while on the job. The railroad rule book includes train signal illustrations.

This is a genuine vintage railroad rule book not a recent reprint. As such, the vintage book shows typical wear. The book is signed on the inside back cover by "D.A. Bradford Cndr."

These are the real deal -- vintage Shiny Brite glass Christmas ornaments. This 12-pack assortment in shades of pink is very old, dating back to the late 1940s.

The ornaments show their age. They are discolored, spotted, faded & have paint loss. But, they are beautiful. Some of them have white stuff on them which I'm guessing is old spray on "snow." Please look closely at the photographs.

Ornaments come in the bottom portion of an original Shiny Brite box. The box is missing its top.

Assortment includes stripes in pink, white, silver & gold, two of which have some mica. Four ornaments have stenciling (3 with "Merry Christmas" & 1 with Santa flying in his sled with reindeer).

Orbs are approximately 3" from cap to base.
