Add this three-quarter bound antique leather book set to your library decor for a stylish and impressive look. The beautiful red leather spines have gold gilt leathering and an Art Nouveau floral design.
Published in 1909 by Bellows-Reeve Company, Chicago, and compiled and edited by Charles H. Sylvester, Journeys Through Bookland is a treasure trove of world literature including nursery rhymes, Chaucer, Tennyson, Wordsworth, Cervantes, Shakespeare, Benjamin Franklin, Thoreau, George Eliot, Keats, Shelley, Kipling, Oliver Goldsmith, Matthew Arnold, Alexander Pope, to name just a few in no particular order. The books are beautifully illustrated.
This is a complete set of eleven (11) volumes including a Guide "For parents, teachers, and all who have children under their charge; for adults who wish to renew their acquaintance with the friends of their youth, or to open for the first time the world's great treasures house of literature..."
These are antique books showing typical wear for 110+ year old books including rubbing, fraying, soiling, aging paper, some loose pages, bumped corners. Spines are mostly in tact and tight. Volume one shows considerable wear with a loose binding, separation, and loose pages. The leather on the spines is deteriorating and the volumes leave behind a red residue when handled. The guide has a library bookplate from a previous owner.
