Japanese Woodblock Vintage Japanese Art Winter Scene Temple and Snow Asian Art Home Decor by HappyFortuneVintage

25.00 USD

Exquisite Japanese woodblock print depicts a calm winter scene with temple gate, temples, falling snow, evergreens and an adult with child strolling by. The child is wearing a red shirt and your eye is immediately drawn to it. The temples are outlined in red and gold. I found this charming print in an old box of correspondence dating from the late 1940s through the 1950s.

The paper stock is folded in half as if the owner meant to use it as a note card. The ink impression shows through on the reverse side. Suitable for framing either folded in half or fully opened, this lovely art work is in very good vintage condition. The paper is beginning to tear at the creases.

There is what looks to be a signature and a chop stamp on the lower left-hand side of the woodblock.

Dimensions:
8 1/4" x 5 5/8" Opened

275.00 USD

The classic image of a dove is formed from intertwined hands suggesting peace and cooperation among the war-torn countries of post World War 2 Europe. This striking political propaganda poster was a winner in the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living poster contest.

Held in 1950, the contest was sponsored by the European Recovery Plan (ERP), more commonly known as The Marshall Plan. Over 10,000 artists from 12 European nations submitted entries to the poster contest with a theme of internationalism & cooperation. A panel of 12 judges selected 25 winning posters.

The ERP or Marshall Plan (1948 - 1951), conceived by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during WW II & Truman's Secretary of State, sort to politically stabilize & rebuild the economies of war-torn European countries while hindering the spread of Communism.

European Recovery Plan (ERP) -- Marshall Plan
Artist: Ernest Storch, Austria
1950, Lithograph, Printed in the Netherlands by Kuhn en Zoon, Rotterdam.
21.5 x 29.5 inches (54 x 74 cm)
German Text: "Frieden Durch InterEurop Zusammenarbeit" or "Peace through Inter-European Co-operation"

The poster is in very good condition with some wear around the edges and two small tears along one side (see photograph 4).

I have the complete set of 25 winning posters fresh from the estate of a graphic artist who was stationed with the U.S. Army in post-World War 2 Europe. I will be listing the posters in my shop along with a series of U.S. Public Health Service posters from the same era and collector.

Antique Spelter Statue Justice Justina Paul Engel Germany Vintage Decorative Art by HappyFortuneVintage

$

125.00 USD

Signed by Paul Engel (1860 - 1913), Justina stands tall on her marble base. This antique spelter statue is finely cast bearing Paul Engel's signature imprint on the back along with the date "03" &"Germany."

A classic depiction of justice dating back to Roman times, blindfolded Justina stands on a stack of books, with a serpent, a sword, and scales of justice. Despite her flaws, she is a fine example of late 19th - early 20th century decorative art.

Condition: Justina has a damaged hand. I suspect the part of her hand that broke away had the hole into which the scales could be hooked on. The bronze-colored spelter coating has chipped away in places, most notably on her sword. The bronze paint on her base has a nice green patina. I think there is a piece missing from the top of the sword. The marble base has some cracks and chips at the edges. Please take a good look at the photographs as they are part of the description. I would be happy to send you additional photographs of the statue.

Measurements: Approximately 10" tall x 4" wide x 4" deep.

Questions? Please ask.

I also have a statue of Asculap (Aslepius) the god of medicine. He is in much better condition and will be listed in my shop soon.

Antique Religious Document - Latin Marriage Sacrement Record -- Roman Catholic Church Document -- Illuminated Art by HappyFortuneVintage

$

125.00 USD

Antique Roman Catholic sacrament record documents the marriage of Josephus Kuruc & Anna Soltis at St. Mary's of the Assumption in Passaic, N.J. on May 10, 1906. In Latin, the elaborate marriage certificate on hard paper-covered board has the names, places of birth (Hungry) and parents' names of the bride and groom. The document is signed by the maid of honor, best man and officiating priest, and has the official raised church seal of the parish.

The detailed illuminated manuscript-like illustration shows a medieval couple at the alter as a priest administers the sacrament of marriage and the groom slips a ring on the bride's finger as angels bear witness.

The document is in very good vintage condition with typical discoloration for paper that is over 100 years old. There is some paper chipping around the edges. The church seal appears to have been stamped in gold foil and shows wear and discoloration.

Vintage Science Books -- The Popular Guide To Science Vol 1 & Vol 2 -- Decorative Green Bindings -- Library Decor by HappyFortuneVintage

38.00 USD

These pocket-size vintage science books are packed with the most up-to-date science information circa 1926. The Popular Guide to Science, Vol 1 & Vol 2 edited by E.E. Lee have decorative green cloth bindings with a textured "leatherette" look.

The questions range from common everyday occurrences of weather, to geology, the human body & mind, astronomy, electricity, chemistry, workings of radio, & questions (along with answers) that would be socially unacceptable by today's standards. The clear & concise answers are written in a breezy style. Reading the answers shows how far science & society has advanced since 1926.

Some of the fascinating questions you'll find in these books:
"Why does not your skin burst when you become fat?"
"Why can't you skate on glass if it is smoother than ice?"
"Why do savages listen with their ears to the ground?"
"Why is it poor policy to cover the ice in the refrigerator with paper?"
"Why are so many people afraid in the dark?"
"Which are more excitable, blue-eyed people or black-eyed people?"
"Are hunches usually right?"

Books are in good vintage condition. Book show some wear with a few whitish marks on the front covers. Pages are yellowed but not brittle.

Striped Glassware -- Vintage Glassware -- Glass Shaker -- Vase -- Summer Home Decor - Red White Green Yellow Orange by HappyFortuneVintage

$

20.00 USD

This colorful classic striped glass is huge. I mean it. It holds 4 cups, that's 32 ounces, of liquid, and is 7" tall with a 4" top diameter.

Photograph three shows how the glass stacks up to a 6 oz capacity tumbler.

So, is this a drinking glass? A cocktail shaker? A vase? I think it suits all three purposes depending on your mood and circumstances.

I've seen similar large glasses capped with spouted plastic lids. But if this glass ever had such a top, it is long gone. I've also seen identical glasses with the Anchor Hocking mark. This glass has no mark.

However you choose to use it, the summery stripes will cheer up any setting.

Glass is in very good vintage condition. No chips. No cracks. There are two glasses available. One of them has a small manufacturing defect on the bottom of the glass.

Vintage Medicine Bottle Tin Packaging Bell-Ans for Indigestion, Amber Bottle, Cottage Chic Home Decor, Graphic Design by HappyFortuneVintage

$

35.00 USD

This is a fabulous vintage circa 1930s Bell-Ans for Indigestion amber medicine bottle in original packaging with vest pocket travel tin and contents intact. Cool vintage product copy on box with dosage instructions, usage information and ingredients. This is an amazing find!

Box is in descent shape, the interior lid fold-overs have broken off (they are in the box), and there is wear around the top, but otherwise in great condition. The tiny travel vest pocket tin shows very little wear for its age and has tablets in it. Paper label on bottle is in excellent condition. Amber bottle is embossed on sides with "Bell-Ans."

The packaging copy is so much fun to read, and I've tried to show as much as possible in the photographs.

Formulated in 1897, the Bells Company Inc. of Orangeburg, New York were the manufacturing chemists. The Bell-Ans name was adopted on January 1, 1914.

Disclaimer: The medicine in this bottle and tin are not meant to be consumed and should not be taken for any ailments. They are purely for display and historical curiosity.

Vintage Political Poster -- Propaganda Poster -- ERP Marshall Plan -- Post War Europe -- European Unity by HappyFortuneVintage

$

325.00 USD

This striking vintage political propaganda poster was a 5th place winner in the European Recovery Plan (ERP) - Marshall Plan 1950 poster contest. Austrian Artist Kurt Krepcik depicts the contest's theme of international cooperation with a war-torn tree trunk with peace doves building a nest from European country flags. The tree trunk shows the beginnings of new growth. Notice the stylized American flag on the trunk supporting the new branches.

This is an original lithograph not a reproduction. The poster is in remarkable condition for its age. It was part of the estate of a graphic artist who collected all 25 winning posters in the Marshall Plan poster contest. The posters were all stored flat in a drawer in a climate-controled studio. The poster shows some wear around the edges with very small tears, but no paper loss. The colors are vibrant.

Text in German: Wir Bauen Ein Neues Europa (We Build a New Europe)

I will be posting all 25 winning posters from the ERP -- Marshall Plan contest as well as a selection of U.S. Public Health Service posters from the same era and collector.

Shiny Brite Lanterns Vintage Glass Christmas Ornaments Red Green White Stripes by HappyFortuneVintage

$

22.00 USD

Shiny Brite, the iconic American Christmas ornament company produced a fantastic array of glass holiday baubles from the late 1930s into the 1960s. This set of lantern-shaped glass ornaments have red, green & white stripes. They came to me tied with the red ribbon you see in the photographs and I have kept the ornaments together.

The ornaments have lost most of their silvering. One of the ornaments has a replacement metal top which is marked "Poland" and doesn't quite fit the bulb. The other one has metal cap marked "Shiny Brite Made in U.S.A." The ornaments have typical signs of aging with spots, paint loss, & discoloration.

One ornament is approximately 2 3/4" long. The other one is about 3" long.
