Filled with illustrations of numerous sports, magic tricks, games, and science experiments, this antique copy of The Boy's Own Book a Complete Encyclopedia of all Athletic, Scientific, Recreative, Outdoor and Indoor Exercises and Diversions is a treasure trove of information about 19th century activities.
The antique sporting and game book includes such diverse tops as games with marbles, archery, fencing, swimming, cricket, gymnastics, ice skating, games with tops, optical amusements, chess, chemical experiments, angling, raising pigeons, and much more.
Published in 1877, the antique book is in rough shape with fraying around the bumped cover edges and loss at the top of the spine. The pages are heavily toned with age with some foxing, soiling and tears, and rips. Several pages, as shown in the photographs, are separated from the book. A former owner wrote his name, "Edward M. Wells," several times in pencil on the front endpapers. Someone hand-colored a few illustrations with a blue pencil. Despite these flaws, the illustrations and information contained in the vintage book makes it a highly collectible book, and an enjoyable read.
