Gutta percha is a type of tree that produces a natural thermoplastic-like sap. Used for centuries by the islanders of the Malaysian archipelago, gutta percha became a popular manufacturing substance in the mid to late 19th century used in such diverse items as insulating material in undersea telegraph cables, Victorian mourning jewelry, and furniture.
The antique box is in very good condition for its age showing normal wear and tear including staining inside the box and a very small nick on the back lid by the hinge. Pens not included.
The vintage pen box has three compartments and measures approximately 7 3/4 inches long by 2 1/4 inched wide by 1 1/8 inches deep.
