Before there was Dick, Jane, Sally and Spot, there was Nip and Tuck, the antic dog duo created by Grace E. Storm and beautifully illustrated by Vera Stone Norman.

Published in 1936 by Lyons & Carnahan, this delightful children's early reader book is packed with color illustrations suitable for framing.

The book is in fair condition. Donald wrote his name in pencil near the upper left corner of the book's cover and again across the back cover. The inside cover has a hand-written inscription, "District 225 Sept. 1938." The cloth tape on the binding is peeling off. The corners are worn and bumped. There are two small holes on the cover that go through to the first page of the book. A few of the illustrations have light soiling. As a librarian, I shake a little bit to say this, but this book is a cutter. The illustrations would make a wonderful series of framed colorful prints in a nursery or children's playroom.

This antique miniature teapot is a tiny gem of cloisonné art. The white cherry blossoms pop against the black background which is also known as noir cloisonné.

The small Japanese teapot has lovely green cloisonné detailing around the rim of the pot, lid rim, and along the handle, as well as green and blue detailing at the base of the pot.

The teapot is in very good antique condition showing typical wear for a 100-plus year old decorative item.

An Attempt to Discriminate the Styles of Architecture in England from the Conquest to the Reformation: With a Sketch of the Grecian and Roman Orders by Thomas Rickman (1776–1841) is a substantial and important architectural reference book. The book is also known as "Rickman's Gothic Architecture."

Beginning with a overview of Roman and Greek influences, Rickman goes on to detail English architecture from the time of the Norman Conquest (1066) to English Reformation (1547). Richly illustrated with detailed drawings and engraved plates, the book is a delight to see and read. Rickman was a successful architect of Anglican churches and an authority on Gothic architecture.

This is the sixth edition of the book published in 1862 "with considerable additions, chiefly historical, by John Henry Parker, F.S.A." The antique book is in its original quarter leather binding. The binding is tight and the leather is in good condition with typical wear at the edges and corners. The decorative binding has gold detailing and lettering on the spine. The front cover cloth shows wear (see photograph three). There is soiling on the page edges at the top right corner. Paper is yellowing consistent with age of the book. Former owner's name and address written in pencil in front of book.

Beautiful early Vera Neumann scarf with her classic pressed leaf motif is a very modern design for a 1940s scarf. The beautiful gold oak leaves pop against the dark orange background. A scarf with a similar leaf border design can be found in the book "Vera, The Art and Life of an Icon" on pages 30 & 31.

Vera Neumann began making silk screened scarves in her New York City loft in 1947 after acquiring a lot of surplus parachute silk leftover from WW II. The small, evenly sized letters of the "Vera" signature, absence of a copyright tag, and the pressed leaf motif tells us that this scarf was made in the late 1940s. It's thrilling to think that this lovely silk scarf could have been silk screened in Vera's New York City loft.

The small silk scarf measures approximately 15 1/2" wide x 16 1/4" long.

Overall, the scarf is in good condition and shows wear consistent for it's 65+ years. The scarf does have areas of fabric separation common for a delicate silk item of this age. This is a scarf for display, not for wear. It would look amazing framed and hung as art.

I have a treasure trove of early vintage Vera Neumann scarves. If you are a collector, and looking for a particular piece, please let me know. I may have it!

Album Von Berlin shows views of the German city in its late 1800s splendor before the devastation of two world wars. The large format photography souvenir book includes 4 double-page panorama and 43 city scenes. Many of these places were bombed out of existence during World War II.

The photographs capture the grandeur of Berlin's architecture and the scope of the city. The volume also includes peopled photographs showing the dress and modes of transportation of turn-of-the 19th century Germany.

The undated book was published by Globus Verlag in the early 1900s and has an Art Nouveau cover designed by the prominent graphic designer and illustrator Jessie M. King of the Glasgow School of artists.

The book is in very good condition for its age. The decorative cloth cover shows typical wear but is in overall very good shape. The binding is intact. Someone wrote the number "41" on the upper right-hand cover in the corner. The number is very faint and less that 1/8" of an inch. The volume has the names and dates of visits to Berlin of several family members of the previous owner written on the front end paper as follows.

The previous owner's name and a date (Daniel Huber Jr. 1909) and the number "41" are written on the title page. Again, the number "41" is very small and written on the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Bring your laboratory glass collection to the next level with these cool vintage hydrometers. Made to measure the specific gravity of liquids, these vintage chemistry measuring devices make a quirky and unique bouquet.

The specific gravity scales are in good condition and date from at least the 1950s and perhaps earlier. Each meter is made from lab glass weighted with a heavy substance (most likely lead shot) and has a rolled paper strip number gauge. The some of the gauges appear to be hand numbered. All but one meter is marked made in "U.S.A." on the paper strip.

Hydrometers measure from approximately 6 1/4 inches to about 7 inches long. The battery meter is approximately 4 3/4 inches long.

Lot includes eight (8) meters.

Vintage Pyrex beaker (250 ml) is included with the lot. The lot also includes glass battery charge meter.

This set of vintage medical surgical sutures in glass vials come in its original cardboard slipcase. Made in Berlin, Germany circa 1910s by H. Hauptner, the suture vials are unused and have a cool industrial science look perfect for display in a medical office or as a photo prop. The lot also includes a sharp pick-like tool also made by Hauptner.

The antique set of medical suture thread although unused, shows signs of wear and age. Two of the three metal vial caps show corrosion. The box shows storage wear around the edges.

The packaging box measures approximately 3 3/4" by 2" by 3/4". The vials are approximately 3 1/4" long. The metal medical tool measures approximately 3 3/4" in its case and 5 1/2" assembled.

This cool Replogle 6 inch Gustav Brueckmann simplified globe has a snazzy full red meridian, a time dial at the top, and lots of personality for its small size.

The transfer painted steel orb shows the world as it was just after the conclusion of World War II. Korea is not divided, Indochina has not been renamed Vietnam, French West Africa has not been broken apart, the Belgian Congo exists, as well as Ceylon, and Northern Rhodesia. Chinese place names are shown in the old Wade-Giles romanization.

The metal globe is in very good condition for a used toy from the 1940s. The orb has a few dings and scratches, most notably a small dent on Iran (Persia), some light soiling from age, and general paint wear.

Globe has a six (6) diameter, and overall height of 8 1/2 inches, and a 4 inch base diameter.

In the mid-20th century, Irvin H. Herbein created many beautiful wood Pennsylvania Dutch folk art pieces, from trinket boxes, to pins, to housewares.

This lovely small trinket box can be used to organize small objects on your desk or dresser.

The small box would also make the perfect container for a special ring.

Bright and cheerful vintage corn on the cob plate can be used as a serving dish or displayed in your country kitchen.

Vintage from the 1930s, this beautiful hand-painted ceramic plate was made in Japan.

The serving dish is in good condition for its age. There are some tiny black spots on the yellow corn and one area of chipped paint (see photograph 2). There is crazing on the back of the plate.

Billowing smokestacks make a bold statement in this political propaganda poster from Cold War era Europe. An entry in the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living 1950 poster contest sponsored by the European Recovery Program (ERP), or more popularly known as The Marshall Plan, this entry by Dutch artist Louis Emmerick won a 5th place prize.

With a theme of "internationalism and cooperation," the ERP poster contest drew 10,000 entries from 12 countries. Twenty five (25) winning posters were selected by a panel of 12 graphics artists, one judge from each of the 12 countries supported by The Marshall Plan. The posters are graphically stunning pieces of political propaganda and historically interesting bits of ephemera from the early Cold War era.

In addition to its bold industrial graphics, this poster is interesting for its English tagline. The poster is in excellent vintage condition with just some minor wear at around the edges.

This poster has been stored flat.

Antique medicine box containing Schering & Glatz Urotropin is an interesting specimen of medical and pharmaceutical history.

Developed at the dawning of the mega commercial pharmaceutical industry, Urotropin was the first branded proprietary product of the drug hexamethylenetetramin. Heavily marketed to physicians, the brand name Urotropin became synonymous with hexamethylenetetramin.

The small rep sample has pretty floral packaging but please note that the apothecary box is in poor condition showing obvious signs of wear and age. It appears to have been opened at one time and then taped closed again. The box has split along one side. Box is marked "Trial Sample."

This is an antique pharmaceutical product being sold as display piece not for use.

Vintage Santa Claus & angel figurine will give an old-fashion Christmas touch to your holiday decor.

Simply marked "foreign," it is hard to tell if this vintage ceramic Christmas figurine is a mid-century Japanese import or from earlier in the century. Either way, its a sweet miniature Christmas figurine.

The miniature ceramic figurine is in good condition with no chips or cracks, but it does have some paint loss.

The tiny Christmas decoration is approximately 1 3/4" tall by 1 1/2" wide by 3/4" deep.
