This delightful and very rare postcard painting book, By Flowery Ways, produced by Raphael Tuck & Sons circa 1900s, presents various chromolithography postcards with accompanying sketches for the budding artist to color in--sort of like a Victorian ladies coloring book. Very sweet, the booklet is in fantastic shape for its age. There are 8 floral postcards in the booklet, 4 are signed "M. Morris."

What makes this postcard book extra special are the the signed (Catharina) Catherine Klein postcard reproductions on the front and back covers. From her Berlin studio, Catherine Klein painted the finest floral-themed and still life images. An independent woman (very rare for her time), and a commercial and artistic success, her work was widely used on printed items such as postcards and calendars.

The legendary firm of RaphaelTuck & Sons produced high-quality art prints and postcards from 1866 into the 20th Century. Prussian immigrants to England, Raphael, artistic director, and his business-saavy wife Ernestine started their printing empire in London. By 1883, they where granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment by Queen Victoria, and had established branches in Paris, New York, Berlin, and Montreal.

Some foxing, two sketches are partially colored in, and one sketch is missing.

Steel City Gem Paper Clips circa 1970s, 100 count, No. 1 in original packaging. Made in Pittsburgh, PA by I. & M. Sufrin, which ceased production in the early 1980s. Haven't counted them, but the box looks full or very close to it. Bonus green thumb tack in the box.

What's makes this box of paper clips so special? Take a look at photographs 2 and 4. Most of the clips in this box are copper colored. I suspect they are copper-toned steel not solid copper.

The box shows wear and is torn and chipped at the right hand corner cover. Red pen mark on front of box. Very cool Pittsburgh industrial skyline design on box.

"Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil," this ancient pictorial maxim is beautifully rendered in this vintage soapstone carving.

An ancient concept of wisdom dating from before Confucius, this classic set of three wise monkeys is based on the 17th century carving over a door of the Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō, Japan. Referred to as san'en or sanzaru in Japan, Kikazaru covering his ears hears no evil, Mizaru covering his eyes sees no evil, and Iwazaru covering his mouth speaks no evil.

Condition: The figurine is in very good condition. As it is carved from stone, there are natural "imperfections" in the rock and color variations. Please look closely at the photographs.

"The Faust" vintage dip pen holder with nib, I'm going to have a hard time parting with this gem -- the literary reference, the patina, the industrial look -- it's just a fantastic pen. This calligraphy lettering tool would make a fabulous addition to any collection.

I'm not sure who made this dip pen. I'm guessing by the "Faust" reference that it might be L & C Hardtmuth. This guess is based on another Goethe reference, "Mephisto," the company used for a line of fountain pens.

I'm not sure of the age of this pen, but it was part of a lot I bought at the estate sale of graphic artist and illustrator who was active from the 1930s through the 1970s.

The nib appears to be an integral part of the wood holder. The pen shows wear and has a nice patina of age and ink.

This playful little mid-century Japan ceramic pig is adorable - just 2 inches long but loaded with charm. The piglet has brown spots, big eyes, and a pink flower at her neck. She is marked "Japan" on the bottom in red ink.

This vintage black vinyl faux patent leather doll handbag with red dog insert (resembles a scottie dog) is simply adorable.

The scale of the bag is perfect for a Barbie Doll or Littlechap. There are no markings on the purse indicating make or doll affiliation. I acquired the handbag in a lot of Barbie and Littlechap clothing and accessories that had been stored in an early 1960s Barbie vinyl case.

Shiny Brite Christmas ornaments -- an American holiday classic.

This set of three decorations includes two double indents with mint green and yellow stripes and one mint green and silver striped orb. Ornaments have their original metal caps marked "Made in U.S.A."

I've packaged the set in a plain repurposed white box -- see photograph 4. The box is perfect for storing your ornaments and is also nice enough to be used as a gift box.

Shiny Brite company was founded in 1937 by Max Eckardt. Working with Corning Glass he developed a line of Christmas ornaments using Corning's light bulb manufacturing process. The clear orbs were then shipped to various factories in New Jersey for hand painting and packaging. Shiny Brite closed operations in 1962.


Product Measurements: Approximately 2 1/8" Diameter and 3" over all including metal loop.

Humpty Dumpty, a gnome elf, and snowman, this irresistible vintage plastic ornament trio will liven up your Christmas tree.

The molded Humpty Dumpty and snowman have plastic faces with flocked bodies. The snowman has a small printed "Made in Japan" tag attached to the wire on his hat.


Condition and Measurements:

The snowman is in good condition. There is a small area of torn flocking on his back and on his hand, and a stray red mark on the back of his head. He is 4" tall.

This highly collectible Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme ornament is in good condition. His flocking is ripped on one knee. He has no markings. He is 4" tall.

Molded from hard plastic, the gnome is in very good condition. Both the back of his head and back of his green overalls are marked "Japan." He stands about 3 3/4" tall not including his hat and 5 1/4" with his hat.

Hot pink holiday "Greetings" from Shiny Brite!

This is a fabulous example of a classic vintage Shiny Brite Christmas ornament. It isn't marked Shiny Brite, but it is marked "Made in U.S. of A." My research indicates that this was a holiday decoration made for sale in U.S. Army PXs during & after World War II.

Vintage photography studio wedding party portrait provides wonderful insight into 1920s fashion and style. Big beautiful rose bouquets for the attendants, fabulous calla lily flowers for the bride, and lovely lace gowns, clues that this must have been a very upscale celebration.

The portrait is mounted in a gray heavy card-stock presentation folder with amazing silver-leaf border detail. The folder is marked "Adamoff, 74 Market St, Passaic, N.J." Top left-hand corner of the folder is bumped, but otherwise the cover and photograph are in amazing condition for their age.

Heart-shaped pressed cardboard pin with a kissing couple dressed in traditional German Bavarian costume, this tinnie was most likely given away at a local event or festival somewhere in Germany sometime prior to World War II.

I wasn't sure what this was when I found it at an estate sale, but I thought the kissing couple was so charming. After much research, I found information on a German solidarity propaganda pin from 1935 with a similar cardboard composition. The article referred to the pin as a "tinnie." Tinnies, which were usually made of metal, were popular in pre-World War II Germany and frequently distributed at public events, festival, and political rallies.

The cardboard has one ding in it on the right side by the gentleman's ankle, but over all, the tinnie is in remarkably good condition. The silky floral-patterned ribbon which connects to an old-fashioned safety pin, is bright and vibrant. There is also a short length of tartan ribbon tied in a bow at the base of the cardboard heart.
