Andre Gide's Les Caves Du Vatican (The Vatican Cellars), a French literature classic and an outstanding example of Modernist fiction, was first published in 1914 about the same time as the outbreak of WW I. Classified as a novel, Gide referred to his work as a "sotie," a form of parody or satirical play dating from the Middle Ages.

Yes, it's in French. And, yes, it contains irony.

This Le Livre de Poche (pocket book) edition published by Galliard is in very good to excellent condition. The spine is so tight, it's possible that this copy has never been read. Why not be the first. And, if you don't want to read it, display it. The cover art is just beautiful.

I was immediately drawn to this unusual brass lion sculpture. Wonderfully imaged, this brass lion has interesting primitive anthropomorphic facial features and a stylized mane.

From a world traveler's estate, I am unsure of the lion's provenance. The piece has no markings, but clearly looks handmade. The seller's best guess was that her father acquired it on a business trip to Asia back in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

The lion is in very good vintage condition.

A lovely lady with fan and cigarette holder looks out from this highly collectible Art Deco bridge tally score card. In exceptional shape for its age, this circa late 1920s paper ephemera die cut has its original silk tassel.

The score card was once in a scrapbook and has some paper and glue residue on the back as well as Louise's name and score (see photograph 2).

Rare box of Polaroid Land Camera Film, this Polarcolor Type 48 film is factory sealed and in its original packaging. What a find for a collector!

The box is marked with an expiration date of "June 1966." I don't think this film would be useable, but then again, I'm not an expert on instant camera film and photography supplies.

The box and its contents are in remarkable condition. The box has some rubbing at the corners. The film is sealed in its original protective packaging. The package includes six sticky-backed self-adhesive mounting cards and a mail-away envelope for ordering copies and enlargements.

Archer & swordmen warriors on horseback engaged in battle make for a dramatic scene on this little black lacquer and papier mache trinket box from Kashmir, India. The box is so colorful and pretty, it takes you a moment to realize there are several disembodied arms on the field.

This is an old box. It is in very good condition. There is a minor chip on the top along the edge which is barely noticeable (it is on the darker horse's back.) There is also some wear on the bottom of the box near the edge. This wear is on the box bottom and does not effect the design or show when the box is displayed.

These 41 antique hand-wrought small nails look rather like tacks and have a great patina of age. Each nail was hand formed long ago by a blacksmith. Each one of these little rusty gems is unique with variations in length and head size. Repurposed them, use them them in your art, or just display them, these primitive nails have a great look.

This is a very beautiful, high-quality scarf, not kitschy or garish. The finely drawn poinsettia, pinecones and holly are outlined in gold and are set on a black background.

Oblong and easy to wear, this sheer scarf is in excellent vintage condition. The previous owner removed the content tag, but from the feel of it, I'd say the scarf is polyester. It's feels very soft and silky. Can be worn as a scarf or a shoulder wrap.
