Brush up on your ancient Greek literature with this vintage copy of Aeschylus's Prometheus Bound and Seven Against Thebes. Part of Hinds & Nobles Handy Literal Translations series, this small volume holds two mighty works of tragedy.

The volume is not dated. Hinds & Noble ran a bookstore in the Cooper Union building in New York City beginning in 1886. They published their Handy Literal Translations late in the 19th century through the very early 20th century. Hinds & Noble became Barnes and Noble in 1917.

This little gem of a book was translated by Theodore Alois Buckley and includes "critical and illustrative notes" as well as a list of Hinds & Nobles publications at the back of the volume.

The book is in very good vintage condition showing typical wear. The brown cloth binding shows wear mostly around the corners and edges. Pages are clean.

A Watertown Lifetime Ware pitcher, circa 1950s, complete with lid would be the crowning piece to any melamine melmac collection. This fabulous example of Jon Hedu's award-winning mid-century design is in the company's original "Bermuda Coral" color with a dark brown lid--a great retro color combination.

In very good shape, the piece has no cracks or chips, and only very minor signs of use. Bottom is hallmarked "Watertown Lifetime Ware Made in U.S.A." Watertown Lifetime Ware can be found in museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Hand-painted Japan ceramic figurine of a girl playing violin with dog, this vintage Arnart 5th Ave statue is clearly a Hummel knockoff.

Bottom stamped "Arnart 5th Ave Hand Painted 11/548," this sweet figurine dates to the late 1950s to early 1960s.

The figurine is in very good condition. No cracks, no chips, no crazing. There is some very minor paint loss on one of her shoes.

Figurine measures approximately 4 3/4" x 2 5/8" wide 1 5/8" deep.

Vintage children's illustrated history book with charming lithographs tells the story of early Massachusetts from the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock through it's colonial development and rich cultural contributions to American arts and letters.

Written by Bernadine Bailey, author of over 50 history and geography titles for children, and illustrated by Kurt Wiese, Picture Book of Massachusetts was published in 1949 by Albert Whitman and Company, Chicago, Illinois.

Hardcover, in very good condition, in dust jacket with one minor nick and some wear near spine. Illustrated endpapers, owners signature and address, "Amalia Gregory 129 Forest Medford" on right front endpaper in ink, and signature in ink on dust jacket flap with price "1.25" in pencil. Brown cloth binding with paper paste down of the cover illustration. Color and black & white illustrations.

6 1/2" x 8 1/4" (oblong)

This is an absolutely charming book in content and construction.

Part two of P. V. N. Myers's Ancient History for Colleges and High Schools, A History of Rome is filled with beautiful illustrations and colorful maps.

Published in 1898 by Ginn & Company, Boston, the book has paper covered metal corner protectors from The Bible Institute in Chicago.

In good condition showing typical aging for 110+ year old book, the volume has some scuffing and wear on the red cloth binding and yellowing to the pages. Paper is in good condition and is not crumbling. A few pages are slightly crumple near the top.

The book has 45 illustrations, 6 colored maps, 6 sketch maps, & 3 table/chronological summaries.

Measures 7 1/2" x 5"

230 Pages including an Index plus 9 pages of Ginn & Company advertisements.

High-quality carpenter pencils in a beautiful shade of blue, these vintage industrial advertising giveaways from Georgia-Pacific make a cool instant collection.

Primary known as a pulp and paper company, Georgia-Pacific started out in 1927 as a lumber company.

Listing is for a set of five (5) pencils. Multiple sets are available.

Found in an overlooked corner at an estate sale, I couldn't resist the sight of the vintage blue pencils in a bright yellow box. Pencils are circa late 1960s early 1970s and are in excellent unused condition.

Pencils are 7" long x 1/2" wide x 1/4" high.

This set of four (4) Rorstrand salad or dessert plates are so lovely you might want to hang and display them on a wall instead of using them on your table.

Rörstrand porcelain of Sweden has a long and illustrious history dating back to the 1726.

Designed by Lars Thoren, Flora stoneware plates were produced between 1956 & 1973 in Sweden. Each dish is hand painted with a Swedish flower and bears the Rorstrand hallmark.

Flowers include:
Hasteibla
Maskros
Rodklover
Tearepris

I have seven additional Flora plates each with a different floral design & a larger cake plate that I will be listing very soon. If you are interested in the entire set, please send me a message.

Plates are in excellent vintage condition.

Old school wood pencils from Eberhard Faber, these Elementary 6370 are retro, well made, and hard to find. You can own seven of these awesome vintage graphite pencils.

Each painted green wood pencil is marked "Eberhard Faber Elementary 6370 U.S.A." All but one is also marked "Woodclinched." This pencil is also a slightly lighter shade of green. The pencils are in very good condition and have never been sharpened.

A bit thicker than the average pencil, this writing tool was designed for school children.

Founded in 1861, Eberhard Faber manufactured their pencils in N.Y.C. on the East River on the site that is now the United Nations Building. I've found advertisements for the Elementary 6370 dating back as far as 1920. This batch is circa 1950s - 1960s.

Pencils are 7" long and have a 3/8" diameter.

Mounted on red leather and decorated with gold gilt, this vintage Saint Anthony pocket shrine medal stores safely in its slipcase.

The metal charm depicts St. Anthony holding baby Jesus. The medal is stamped "S. Antonio." The red leather slip case is stamped in Italian "Ovunque Proteggimi" or, "Alway Protect Me" in English.

St. Anthony is the patron saint of lost people and objects.

The pocket shrine shows wear. The leather is rubbed and nicked in places particularly around the slipcover opening. The medal has a nice patina of age.

This is a very small pocket-size religious object. Overall measurements are approximately 1 1/2" x 1 1/8".

Dating from the late 1950s to early 1960s, Ketcham McDougall "Key Keeper" is in its original box and has never been used.

Pin is marked "Ketcham McDougall, Roseland, N.J. Made in U.S.A."

Keychain is in mint. Box shows some shelf wear.

He's big. He's musical! He's just fabulous!

Rare vintage musical wind up Santa Claus, this dashing Santa figure plays Jingle Bells. He'll be the hit of your Christmas party. He's sure to become a favorite family holiday decoration.

Marked Atlantic Mold on the bottom, this hand-painted ceramic Santa Claus figure has a wind up key on his back and a music box mounted inside of him.

Dimensions: Approximately 11" tall x 10" wide x 6 1/2" deep

Overall, the figure is in very good vintage condition. The music box plays. The piece has minimal paint loss, but he does have a chip on the edge of his bell, (see photograph 2). If desired, you could mask the chip with a little gold paint.

The booklet measures 4 3/8" x 3 1/4" closed. Dating from the 1930s, the photograph booklet is in very good vintage condition. There are two small tears on the red card stock tab closure. Photographs are in excellent condition.

Light as meringue, this circa 1960s sheer chiffon vintage scarf has amazing pleating across the entire fabric. The color changes from white in the center to a mere hint of yellow to a deeper yellow at the edges. The combination of color graduation, sheerness, and pleating blend into a very textural and unusual scarf.

In good vintage condition, the flaws do not detract from the grace and glamor of this scarf. The fragile fabric does show wear, there is a small section where the pleating has relaxed, there is some thread separation, but no tears, and two small barely noticeable spots.

There is no tag on the scarf. By the feel of it, it'd say it's nylon.

Bright and cheery in shades of yellow & green, with a dash of dark blue, this vintage crochet afghan is a stunner. Handmade back in the 1970s, the blanket was crocheted with acrylic yarn in a variety of stitch patterns.

Handmade vintage textiles remind me of the continuity between generations. Forty years or so ago, someone took the time to make a blanket for her family. She most likely learned the stitches she used to make the afghan from her mother or grandmother, who learned the stitches from her mother, and on it goes back into history. Crochet is an ancient art and this afghan is a fine 1970s example of that art.

Made from sturdy and warm yarn, this blanket is in excellent vintage condition. No holes, tears or fading.

Measurements: 67" x 44"
