If you're looking for a big, impressive, colorful vintage globe, this one is it. Made in the U.S.A., this Poligraphic Hy Press Bilt Weber Costello globe has a 16 inch diameter and stands almost 22" tall on its metal base.
The political globe shows the world as it was in 1959. Within a few years, the political globe would look much different, particularly on the African Continent. Egypt & Syria are united as the United Arab Republic (1958 - 1961). The Belgian Congo (1908 - 1960), French West Africa (1895 - 1960) & French Equatorial Africa (1910 - 1959) still exist. The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1953 - 1963) & Bechuanaland (1885 - 1966) are present.
Vietnam is not separated into North & South (1954 - 1975) although the Geneva Accord separated the country in 1954 pending elections in 1956. The State of Vietnam (South Vietnam) rejected the Geneva Accord & the U.S.A. refused to sign it. The rest, as they say, is history.
The globe is in very good condition with some surface soiling and minor paper loss typical on a 50+ year old globe. The colors are bright. The globe is mounted in moveable metal bracket. It has time dials at the poles.

I recently acquired a lovely collection of globes including several paper-covered illuminated glass orb floor globes on wooden bases and the globes pictured in photograph 5. I will be listing the globes in my shop soon. Interested, and can't wait? Send me a message for more information.
