KonTiki by Thor Heyerdahl is a classic book in the adventure travel genre. This solid 1st American edition copy has decorative endpapers with a map of the Kon-Tiki expedition as well as photo reproductions documenting the journey.

These vintage Jesus, Mary & Joseph figures would make a great nativity scene starter set. The plaster cast high-quality figurines are beautifully rendered with nice detailing. These are the larger size nativity with Joseph measuring 7" tall.
As these are genuine vintage, expect the nativity figures to show signs of age. Mary has a small chip on her hair. Joseph has some dark spots on his robe and a chip near the base. He has his original wire staff.
The Christmas figurines are marked "Italy" on the bottom.

Sweet trio of vintage pottery chalkware figurines includes two angels and a little boy with his dog. The miniature figures make a very appealing display grouped together. The figures are reminiscent of Jean Manley's pottery and Hermione Palmer's early work. The boy reminds me of Tintin and his dog Milou (aka Snowy).
Found in a box of vintage miscellaneous pieces of California pottery, one of the figures, the angel with black wings with gold polka dots has a curious makers mark, ""Four Star Lines Hollywood Calif. Hand Made."
The circa 1940s figures show wear including chippy paint, soiling, and small chips most notably on the angels's wings.

Antique pencil sharpener made in Germany circa 1914 has a metal Atlas figure holding up a metal world globe. The vintage miniature globe shows a simplified version of the world's political boundaries before World War I including the Chinese Empire, St. Petersburg, the Congo State, and the British Dominion (Canada).
The miniature transfer painted metal globe has a deep patina of age showing typical wear for a tin toy that is over 100 years old. There is a small dent near modern-day Korea. The pencil sharpening device is present and works fairly well.
The vintage world globe pencil sharpener would be an interesting accent piece in your office and would make a unique gift.

Incredible set of antiquarian leather books, this collection of Antique Gems from the Latin and Greek was published by subscription in 1902 by George Barrie & Son, Philadelphia. Each custom printed set was bound according to the subscribers specifications. This antique book set is bound in three quarter Morocco leather, green with brown spine, and light green cloth. The spines have gold gilt designs and lettering.
Subscription number 685 of 1000 sets published, this collection belonged to Percy Chubb the founder of Chubb Insurance. Each volume has Chubb's personal bookplate pasted on the inside front endpaper.
Each book has the Latin or Greek text on one side with the English translation on the facing page. The books are beautifully illustrated and printed on high quality Japanese vellum paper.
Books are in good condition with rubbing and wear evident at the corners and along the edges. Pages are clean. The books were on a library shelf untouched for years and have some dust soiling along the top edges.
This impressive book set would be an amazing & very special gift for a book lover, Classics buff, or a lawyer or corporate executive who has been promoted to the corner office.

Standing proudly on a chair, this young child with her white hair bow and bold polka dot dress appears to be enjoying her photography portrait session. This triplet set of antique carte de visite come from the estate of an old German woman whose family carried an amazing cache of photographs with them when they immigrated to America in the early 1900s.
Compare the face of the young child in this photograph with that of the girl with the big white bow in her hair and striped dress in the following photograph.

Fun decorative metal tray with a Chinese motif has images of various games & sports activities including jumping rope, billiards, tug of war, and other playground scenes. The images look as if they were reproduced from a set of cards. Each image has a number in the upper corner of the picture.
The old tray is approximately 50 years old. The vintage tray is weathered and shows its age includes soiling, scratches and dings. Still, the tray would look great hung as part of a shabby chic tray display.

Classic set of vintage glass Christmas ornaments in their original packaging can be hung on your Christmas tree or simply displayed in their decorative box. Made in the Lewiston, Maine circa 1950s, this box of Paragon glass ornaments has a teardrop shape. Four of the ornaments have white stenciling.
The Christmas ornaments are unused and in their original box, but they do show signs of the passage of time including oxidation typical for this type of glass. The box has a lovely mid-century Christmas scene and shows shelf wear at the corners and light soiling.

Solid copy of Jean Paul Sartre's classic Existential novel, The Age of Reason is the first book in his The Roads to Freedom trilogy. Concerned with the Existentialist concept of what it means to be free, the book is set in 1930s Paris and is considered a fictional presentation of the ideas found in Sartre's Nothingness and Being.
This circa 1940s Modern Library Book edition of Sartre's work has an intriguing cover design, decorative endpapers, and an attractive blue cloth binding with silver lettering.
The dust jacket shows wear most notably along the edges with small tears and paper loss at the top and bottom of the spine. The pages are clean. Binding is tight. The front right hand-side end paper has been torn out and the page preceding the title page has been carefully taped into the book.

Night Haunts of Paris by Roland Vane (pseudonym of Ernest L. McKeag) is just what you would expect from a pulp fiction novel from the early 1950s. Written in an exposé style (pun intended), the back cover informs that "These exposures may shock you; they will certainly thrill you and hold your interest until the very last line."
The slim work of pulp fiction has a protective plastic wrapper which I will send along with the book. The wrapper has two stickers on it, one says "Night Haunts," and the other "Heade GGA Cover," referring to cover art by Reginald Heade. GGA is an an acronym for "good girl art," a pulp fiction art style term coined by the American Comic Book Company for cover art depicting sexy women in improbable poses.
Pulp fiction by definition refers to books printed on cheap pulp paper which ages quickly. The book is in good condition with typical tanned paper. The cover graphic is bright but has a chip off the edge and some soiling. There is sticker residue from a price tag and light soiling on the cover.

A small little brass treasure chest, this antique Ashanti Akan gold dust box was made long ago using the lost wax casting method. The decorative brass box has four birds in a row on the lid, and is hefty for its diminutive size.
Used in its time to hold gold dust, the vintage African brass box shows signs of age from wear and the passage of time, yet is in overall good condition.

Humorous vintage plate with a sports motif was part of a set manufactured by Boch Frerès La Louviere in Belgium circa 1920s as part of their "Les Sports" series of decorative dishes. The decorative wall plate title "La Natation," or "The Swimming" in English would make a fun gift for a swimmer or decor accent in a lake house cottage.
The antique decorative plate hung on a wall for many years and shows signs of wear and the passing of time. There are some rough spots on the glaze around the rim and crazing, and a few light scratches on the plate. The decorative plate will be sent to you with the vintage metal hanging bracket as shown in photograph five.
The decorative plate has a French caption:
"Mais qui est-ce qu'il ont a me regarder" which translates in English to "But does he have to watch me?"

Initially published in Paris in 1934, Henry Miller's sensational novel Tropic of Cancer was banned in the United States.
Grove Press's 1961 edition of Tropic of Cancer triggered an obscenity trial challenging the American laws on pornography. In 1964, the United States Supreme Court ruled the book non-obsene. The book is now considered an important 20th-century literary work.
Genuine vintage, this copy of Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer was published in 1961 by Grove Press. The book's original dust jacket is in poor condition with deep tears around the edges and along the spine and paper loss as shown in the photographs. The book pages are clean and the binding is tight.
