Collectible vintage Modern Library edition of Dostoevsky's short stories includes the Russian author's best known short fiction.

This circa 1960 vintage book is complete with its original dust jacket which is back printed with a list of the 376 Modern Library editions available at the time of publication. The dust jacket shows typical wear with small tears around the edges, soiling, and some paper loss. The vintage book is in good condition with light toning to the pages.

Made in Switzerland to promote the country's Swiss Cheese Association, the set of vintage hankies are in excellent condition. Each handkerchief has its original silver foil label marked "Switzerland Made in Switzerland All Cotton Switzerland Cheese Ass. Inc. " Cantons include Appenzell, Bern, Ticino, and Vaud.

Each handkerchief measures approximately 11 inches square.

Vintage lot of calligraphy nib holders can be displayed or used to write old-fashioned lettering.

Two of the nib holders are marked "Esterbrook #35 Made in U.S.A." These vintage calligraphy pen nib holders are made from wood and have a heavy coating of black lacquer. One of these lettering pens comes with a Hunt Artist nib.

The third nib holder is marked "Speedball." It is molded from plastic and comes with a Joseph Gillott's 404 nib.

The vintage calligraphy pen nib holders and the nibs are used and show wear with some nicks to the lacquer and dried ink on the nib tips.

Esterbrook nib holders are approximately 5 1/8" long without a nib.
The Speedball nib holder is approximately 7" long without a nib.

A striking and artful depiction of the Devil's Temptation of Christ on the Mountain, this wood panel appears to be some sort of antique printing block. The vintage biblical artwork is rendered in great detail showing Satan tempting Christ on the summit of a mountain.

Made by Vanderburgh Wells & Company, a 19th-century manufacturer of wood type, borders, and rules, the wood panel is stamped "V.W. & Co 18 Dutch St N.Y." on the back. Vanderburgh Wells was in business in New York from 1867 - 1890.

The wood panel art work is made up of three individual printing blocks bolted together. Overall, the wood printing block art is in good condition showing typical wear with scuffing and scratching, and spotting. There is a small chip along the edge of the top panel piece, and the bottom piece has a separation along a seam. The surfaces of the wooden blocks are smooth and not carved like typical wood blocks. The artwork is signed "Mettais" on the bottom corner as shown in photograph nine along with a second name that is very hard to read.

This small anti-Communist pamphlet published by the Catholic Information Society introduced Catholics to Aloysius Stepinac, the Archbishop of Zagreb, defender of the Jews during World War II, and to the complex politics of Yugoslavia. The pamphlet is essentially a plea to Americans to urge the United States government to take formal action against Stephinac's imprisonment by Josep Tito's regime.

This antique Bay State Thread Works Seamsew thread is a fabulous find.

In amazing condition for its age, the box is in beautiful condition with some small tears on the top box lids. Made by the Bay State Thread Works in Springfield, Massachusetts, the vintage black thread is unused and complete on its wooden spool. The spool label is a bright red. The box has a wonderful graphic of "Susanna Seamsew" at her sewing machine while a little girl holding a doll observes her as she sews. The box has a price (5¢) lightly marked in pencil on the top.

The thread box carton is designed to fit directly onto a sewing machine spindle.

Genuine vintage movie handbill flyer for Warner Bros's 1945 World War II romance Too Young to Know featuring Joan Leslie and Robert Hutton is a charming piece of old movie memorabilia. Suitable for framing, the old lithograph flyer can be used as decor in a retro-themed movie theater or home movie room.

The vintage lithograph flyer is back printed with ads for movie theaters and films including:

This is an original movie handbill, not a reproduction. The flyer is marked in very fine print at the bottom "Continental Litho Corp Cleveland Ohio Made in U.S.A," along with credits for the movie, and "A Warner Bros. First National Picture."

Measures approximately 11 1/2 inches by 8 3/4 inches.

Sometime back in the late 1800s, a small boy boy holding a lion tamer's whip prop stared with a tentative, almost frightened gaze at a Berlin, Germany studio photographer's camera. Over one hundred years later, his image survives on three antique carte de visite.

These carte de visite are part of a treasure trove of photographs from one Berlin family. I have other photographs of this child as well as his parents and sibling. The collection is an interesting visual glimpse into the life of a wealthy German family in the late 1800s into the early part of the 20th century.


Carte de visite were invented in Paris by André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854. He also developed a method of producing eight separate negatives on one plate making it easier to produce multiple cards of an identical image. In the mid to late 1800s, carte de visite became all the rage and were traded among friends and relatives.

Cards are in good condition for their age showing typical wear including scratches, edge wear, rubbing, fading, and spotting. Each card has the number "3225" written on the back in pencil and as well as the gold gilt stamp of Samson & Co Berlin. The back of one card is obviously darkened with age.

Framed together, these striking carte de visite would make an unusual and unique piece of nursery or boy's room decor.

Cards measure approximate 4 1/8" x 2 1/2".
