Found in a box of correspondence sent to the USA from Japan in the 1950s, this original silk fabric painting shows a lovely winter scene. Mounted between red-trimmed card stock and a delicate sheet of paper, the painting is in very good condition.
The charming scene shows falling snow, pine tree boughs, snow-covered lanterns, with a view across water to a red gateway with snowy hills in the background. The red gates stands in sharp contrast to the gray winter sky.
Matting and backing paper are slightly yellowed. Right hand side of the matting (side without the red trim) appears to have been gently torn or cut out of a book or from a back matting board. The piece is not signed.
A beautiful and delicate work of art, it would be a lovely addition to any decor.
