This set of four (4) Castleton China doubled handled soup bowls with saucers have a lovely maroon leaf and gold berry pattern around the rim of each ivory porcelain dish. This is Castleton's Essex Pattern made in the U.S.A. between 1958 and 1962.

This charming china pattern is increasingly hard to find. Mix and match this beautiful berry pattern with complementary dinnerware, or use it on evenings when soup is the main course. The saucers can also be used as bread, salad or dessert plates.

Soup bowls and saucers show some light wear on the rim design and have no chips. One of the bowls has a very fine crack in it that does not go through to the other side -- see photograph four.

Bowls and saucers are bottom marked "Castleton China Essex Made in U.S.A."

This "Original Art Kerchief" handkerchief is "strictly for show not for blow." "Created, sculpted, and painted by Artists Colony of Greenwich Village, N.Y.C.," this is a rare New York City souvenir handkerchief.

Hand cut in the shape of the map of the United States, the handkerchief has the abbreviations for each state, and "New York City" handwritten across the top. New York State and the island of Manhattan are hand painted orange along with a red star denoting New York City. The handkerchief is outlined in gold.

The fashions and hairstyles on the label date the handkerchief to the 1940s. Could this handkerchief have been an attempt to raise money to pay the rent on the colony's studio space on the south side of Washington Square Park? The colony was evicted from its studio space when its lease expired at the end of 1948. New York University, the property's owner, tore the studio building down and built their law center on the site.

Original label is present but not attached to the handkerchief. There is no fabric content tag. My guess is that it's made from a nylon fabric. The handkerchief is in very good vintage condition. There are a few stray black marks which look to be from the making process. There are a few very small tears near the top on the gold edging. The handkerchief does not have a hem.

Our Chinese Ally published by the American Historical Association for the U.S. War Department was designed to introduce the American soldier to China, its culture, and evolving political system.

Published in 1944, this vintage military booklet gives an interesting insight into the U.S. government's attitude towards China during World War II before the Cold War turned the tide of propaganda against Communism. The pamphlet gives an overview of Chinese history and China's involvement in World War II.

This is a genuine vintage military pamphlet from 1944 not a reproduction. The booklet shows wear and the passage of time. There is noticeable wear along the stapled binding and around the edges of the back and front covers. The back cover has a crease on the page-edge side. There is soiling on the tips of the bottom page-edge corners from the centerfold through the end of the pamphlet.

This curious antique brass cylinder-shaped box has a beautiful black lacquer casing with gold gilt details. Made by the Waterbury Brass Goods branch of The American Brass Company and marked an Anaconda Product, the brass cylinder looks very much like a late 19th century - early 20th century tea caddy. The vintage brass container has black enameling with red details and the initials "R.E.D." engraved on top.

My guess is that this beautiful decorative container was a promotional piece made in Waterbury, Connecticut in the mid to late 1920s to publicize the Anaconda Copper Company's purchase of The American Brass Company in 1922.

This interesting relic of the once-mighty American brass industry shows considerable signs of its age and the passing of time. The lacquer outer container has chipping around the rim, as well as cracking along the cylinder. There is a chunk of lacquer missing along the decorative gold gilt design (see photograph 5). The brass cylinder has some scuffs and wear to the black enamel and denting along the bottom rim (see photograph 2).

Despite these flaws, this is a rare and collectible piece of American industrial history.

This vintage street guide from 1940 contains blocks and address for the New Jersey cities and towns of Newark, Elizabeth, Harrison, Kearny, & Arlington. The handy reference guide was an free advertising giveaway from the Hill Medical Office in Newark, NJ. The slim, vest-pocket size pamphlet has calendars on the back cover for the year 1940 and January through June of 1941.

Mostly geared towards men, the booklet also contains interesting vintage medical information advertising the latest, now very dated, treatments and cures for various illness available.

This is a genuine vintage medical advertising pamphlet and street guide from 1940. It shows its age and the passing of time. The cover is in good condition with light soiling and spotting along the edge. Printed on cheap pulp paper, the pages show considerable tanning.

Vintage globe by Replogle shows the world circa 1933. This is a rare 7-inch diameter globe with a domed "Big Dipper" metal base. With its Art Deco styling and small table-top size, this globe is perfect for display on your desk or office bookshelf.

Although small, the globe has lots of detail including a legend, international date line, tropics of cancer and capricorn, the path of Adm. Bryd's 1929 flight to the South Pole, Lindbergh's 1927 flight, & a selection of radio stations.

Globe is marked "7 Inch Standard Globe Made by Replogle Globes Inc. Chicago, Ill."

Christmas Scotch tape in round dispensers lithographed with the classic Scotch Brand tartan plaid would be cool additions to any holiday display.

The dispensers are marked "Minnesota Mining Co." which eventually came to be known as 3M.

Each dispenser is approximately 1/2" in diameter.

The dispensers are in excellent shape. It's amazing that after approximately 60 years, the tape remains sticky to the touch, although it does not hold well. The dispensers are for display as the tape integrity has degraded over the years.

What They Wore, Highlights of Fashion History produced by the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) takes the reader on an illustrated walk through women's fashions from ancient times to women's liberation movement.

Edited by Leon Stein, the noted labor writer and editor of Justice, ILGWU's newspaper, the informative little book bears the union's label on every page and the tag line, "Today...when buying women's or children's apparel - look for this label - the symbol of decent, fair labor standards and the American way of life." The booklet was published in 1973 at time when the labor unions were weakening, and corporations began outsourcing garment labor to Asia.

The book although clean and bright gets only a fair rating as the glued binding has cracked and pages 55 through 70 have separated but are present. The illustrations on each page of this book are frame worthy. Previous owners name and date (Mabel P. Nichols 1974) in ink on the cover, as well as a few dates in pencils on several pages.

Captured in sepia tones, this class of boys stare confidently into the camera with the hint of smiles on their young faces. Taken in Berlin, Germany very early in the 1900s, this photograph is part of a collection from one family's estate spanning from the 1800s into the early part of the 20th century.

Some of the boys are dressed in the classic sailor suit uniform of the time period. Some are wearing lace-up boots. One boy has a watch fob and chain hanging prominently from his coat jacket.

The photograph is in good condition with small chips at the top left corner and bottom right corner. The photo is mounted on heavy card stock which shows wear around the edges and some discoloration from age.

This is a beautiful first edition copy of Stephen Powers's Afoot and Alone; A Walk From Sea to Sea by the Southern Route; Adventures and Observations in Southern California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Etc. This interesting and important rare book chronicles Powers's 3,556 miles walk from Raleigh, North Carolina to San Francisco, California.

Published in 1872 by the Columbian Book Company, this antique book is a rare find. The volume has 30 wood-cut engravings including several by the artist True W. Williams.

This is a solid book in very good condition for its age. The bottom cover corners are bumped and a bit frayed, but over all the cover is in great shape with just some light soiling. The gold gilt cover illustration of a traveller is in very good condition. There are a few brown spots on the title page's protective tissue overlay, some light foxing on pages 314 & 315, and a few spots here and there throughout the book. Binding is tight. Text block is square.

Amazing vintage Christmas cards produced by California Artists circa 1960s of Mary and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem pausing by a waterfall. The Star of Bethlehem shines brightly in the black night sky over the figures of the haloed Mary and Joseph and their donkey.

Exceptionally high quality art reproduction, the gold-trimmed cards with envelopes are in their original gold-foil box, and are in very good unused/new vintage condition. They truly don't make holiday cards like this anymore.
