During the 1950s and 1960s, pioneering adventure traveler and writer Barbara Alex Toy covered an amazing amount of ground traveling in Land Rovers from London to Singapore and across desert territories in the Middle East and Northern Africa.

The Highway of The Three Kings recounts Barbara Toy's journey along the ancient Incense Route through the Arabian Peninsula from Bir Ali (ancient city of Cana), past the legendary start of the Three Wise Men's pilgrimage, through the war zones of Yemen, past the outskirts of Mecca, through Saudi Arabia, through ancient Midian to Aqaba, Petra, Amman, to Damascus.

An engaging and inspiring travel adventure story, the book would make a great gift for a travel lover or anyone interested in the Middle East.

This is a genuine vintage book published in 1968 not a recent reprint. As such, the book shows wear consist for its age. The dust jacket shows noticeable wear around the edges. Pages are clean. Binding is tight.

This beautiful lacquer box once belonged to Walter T. Steves, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. The lacquer cigarette box was a gift to Col. Steves from Col. Nguyen Duc De, Chief Adjunct General, Joint General State of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces.

The lacquer box has four beautiful Vietnamese women on the lid and hinges open to reveal three tiered cigarette shelves.

The shelves are made of wood and have metal hinges. The top shelf has slots for 15 thin cigarettes. The middle shelf has slots for 15 thicker cigarettes, and the bottom shelf has 8 slots that look as though they could accommodate small cigars.

The box was used in its time and shows wear. There are scuffs and scratches on the lacquer as well as a few small chips along front edge. The presentation box has a blue plaque on the side which reads:

I found a reference to Col. Walter T. Steves. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He is buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. His grave stone indicates that he served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Cool 1950s Replogle Play Tray is just the right accoutrement for the digital age. It makes a perfect laptop tray or breakfast serving tray.

Intended as a child's sick bed tray, or for use in front of the TV, the metal tray has two folding legs that make it comfortable to use in many situations, as a computer stand, portable craft table, breakfast in bed, reading, writing, homework, eating a meal, etc.

The tray has a lithograph road trip map game of the United States. You'll find iconic images depicting American scenes and culture along the game route.

The tray is in good vintage condition. It shows wear and has light rust spotting. The folding game tray comes with its original box which shows considerable wear and soiling.

This mid-century vintage Replogle globe is mounted on a rare Welch Scientific base designed by William A. Hall and referred to as the Hall Tellurian Globe having many functions similar to an orrery. The metal base has an adjustable blue dial with constellations, zodiac signs, seasons, the months and days of the year.

The mount houses a 12 inch Replogle Reference Globe designed and edited by the cartographer Gustav Brueckmann. The globe dates to the early 1950s and the beginning of the Cold War Era. Vietnam is divided by north and south. East Germany is marked "Soviet Zone."

The globe is in good condition showing typical dust soiling, spots, and a few very small areas of paper loss. The base dial is in beautiful condition. However the mount is not complete. It has its full meridian indicating sun rise and sun set lines but is missing its steel ferules indicated night and day.

This slim volume of poems and proverbs was part of the New York City Public School curriculum back in the 1920s and 1930s, a time when education included a fair amount of memorization.

Organized by categories such as nature, patriotism, home and friends, humor, seasons and festivals, the poems, specifically selected for children, include verses by Christina G. Rossetti, William Blake, Robert Louis Stevenson, Hilaire Belloc, and more.

The vintage school book has decorative endpapers with a New York City Board of Education check-out sheet pasted on the front endpaper, as well as a red "Property of Board of Education" stamp on the title page. The book is in overall good condition with typical wear on the cover, some soiling and spotting, and tanning of pages.

New old stock vintage Esterbrook Penesco No 509 Medium stub italic calligraphy dip pen nibs are a rare find. Made in Camden, New Jersey, there are 144 (a gross) steel pen nibs in each box.

Each box offered in this listing is in unused vintage condition and has never been opened. Some of the box seals are intact and some of seals are broken.

This listing is for one box of vintage Esterbrook Penesco No 509 Medium Stub nibs. The slide-open box design and the Penesco tag dates the manufacturing of these nibs to the 1940s.

Miniature Mid Century owl figurine trio will add a charming touch to your home or office decor. Made in Denmark, the vintage pottery owls are super cute and would make a great gift for a new mom and dad or owl lover.

The vintage owl figures are in very good condition having no chips or cracks and minimal wear to the glaze. Two of the owls are stamped "Denmark" on the bottom. The largest owl also has a marker stamp, but it is very hard to read.

Smith's Map of Philadelphia & Vicinity is an interesting document showing the area as it was in 1894.

The antique 2-section map is attached to hardcover book boards with gold gilt title lettering. The boards were once joined but have split apart over time from age and use. The hand-colored maps are detailed and quite attractive but are not in good condition.

The "New Map of Philadelphia and Vicinity" is in two sections as published. The map sections are fragile, and tanned with age with multiple splits at the folds. There is a purple stamp from the "Cycling Publishing Company" on the bottom right corner of the main section. The other map section has split entirely across one fold as shown in photographs 4 & 5.

A good map or paper conservator could restore this beautiful map.

These carte de visite are part of a collection of photographs from one Berlin family. The collection is an interesting visual glimpse into the life of a wealthy German family in the late 1800s into the early part of the 20th century.


Carte de visite were invented in Paris by André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854. He also developed a method of producing eight separate negatives on one plate making it easier to produce multiple cards of an identical image. In the mid to late 1800s, carte de visite became all the rage and were traded among friends and relatives.

Cards are in good condition for their age showing typical wear including scratches, edge wear, rubbing, fading, and spotting. Each card has the number "3226" written on the back in pencil and as well as the gold gilt stamp of Samson & Co Berlin.

Cards measure approximate 4 1/8" x 2 1/2".

Rare and interesting anthology book edited by Alice Dunbar Nelson, The Dunbar Speaker and Entertainer contains poetry, drama, and prose specifically for an African American audience.

Published in 1920, the book includes selections by Paul Lawrence Dunbar, W.E.B. DuBois, Frederick Douglass, and Phyllis Wheatley, as well as line drawing and intriguing photographs of a young girl in various postures.

Alice Dunbar Nelson was an American writer and political activist, and prominent member of the Harlem Renaissance.

This is a genuine first edition copy of this rare title not a recent reprint. The book is nearing 100-years old and shows wear from age and use. The cover shows wear with light fraying at the corners, a few black ink spots on the front cover, white spots on the spine, and general soiling from age. The front hinge is weakened but intact, pages are tanned with age, there is some very light soiling on a few pages. Overall this is a good copy of a rare book.
