This vintage metal Bradley & Hubbard bookend is the perfect gift for the lover of books, literary enthusiast, teacher, college professor, philosopher, writer, new college graduate, or anyone else who appreciates the written word.

Modified from a letter written by the Roman philosopher Seneca to Lucilius, this often quoted Latin phrase, is actually a bit of a twist on Seneca's actual words - Otium sine litteris mors est - Leisure without literature is death.

The cast metal bookend is heavy and in good condition for its age showing typical wear and a nice patina. The bookend has the Bradley & Hubbard "B&H" hallmark on the back.

This is a genuine vintage book published in 1954 not a recent reprint. As such, the book shows typical signs of age and wear. The vintage science fiction paperback was printed on pulp paper that has tanned with age. The book cover is bright and clean. There is mild creasing along the spine and spine edge. The binding is tight but there is some cracking at page 46. Over all, this is a good display copy.

Everywoman, an ladies underwear catalog distributed by Sisson Brothers-Welden, a once prominent dry goods store in Binghamton, N.Y., is filled with amazing illustrations of women wearing various styles of undergarments knitted by Richelieu Mills of Utica, N.Y.

Although the antique catalog is not in fine condition, I just could not resist the information and images it contains, from its cover with illustrations of 12 beautiful woman sporting a variety of hairstyles, to the brief "Everywoman" story that begins, "When Eve's curiosity led her into the indiscretion that resulted in her loss of social position she took to sewing...," to the pictures of women with rosy cheeks wearing modest cotton knit underwear.

The adverting booklet is undated. The hair and clothing styles, and advertisements for the Win-Sum union suit date the catalog to 1910 - 1912.

The front cover of the booklet is heavily spotted with soil and foxing. The back cover has a hole that penetrates through to the last page of the booklet (see photograph 3). There are some numerical pencil notations on the inside back cover and stray pencil marks and soiling on the back cover. Pages are browned with age. The bottom page corners are bent and a few are chipped. There is some paper loss on the stapled spine.

Super rare antique Carter's Ink Photolibrary Water Well paste jar has a decorative lithographed metal lid and its original paper label. The vintage glass paste jar would make a unique addition to any bottle or jar collection.

This is a genuine antique jar made very early in the 20th century. The glass bottle is bottom embossed "Carter's Made in U.S.A. 274." The glass jar's original paper label is in very good condition for its age. The metal lid has a beautiful detailed red and green lithograph design which shows typical wear. The metal lid is marked on the top "Colonial Can Co. Boston" and "Pat June 11, 1901" in fine print. The library paste jar is missing its brush.

This transfer painted metal steel globe published by the J. Chein & Company, Burlington N.J. has very good detail for a "tin" child's desk globe. The world globe has a plastic half meridian, time dial at the North Pole, and a gold metal octagon base.

The globe shows the world as is was in 1960-1961. Egypt & Syria are united as the United Arab Republic (1958 - 1961), French Equatorial Africa is not present (1908 - 1959), Germany is broken apart into East and West. "Belgian" has been dropped from the Congo (1960).

In very good condition for a 50+ year-old metal globe, the colors are bright and there are minimal signs of wear.

The globe has a 9" diameter, stands approximately 12" tall, measures 7" across the base, and has approximately a 28" circumference not including the meridian.

During the 1950s & 1960s, the space race captivated our imaginations, and outer space imagery became a ubiquitous motif on toys, housewares, fabrics, and a myriad number of decorative items.

Sealed in its original packaging, this vintage educational card game is a rare find from the space age era. The box lid has an amazing outer space graphic with two rocket ships orbiting around the earth. The space age graphic is repeated on the back of each game card.

It's the perfect gift for the collector of outer space toys and games!

The box shows shelf wear with some rubbing and scratches to the cover graphic. Three of the corners are split, but the heavy cardboard box holds together well. The original cellophane wrap is beginning to tear at the bottom right hand-side corner.

This vintage miniature world globe toy is big on fun! The colorful globe would make a cool display piece in your home, office, man cave, woman cave, child's room, or anywhere you want a whimsical bit of fun.

The vintage metal toy globe top comes as shown. I'm not sure if it at one time it had a launcher device. It has a wooden handle at the top attached to a metal rod that goes through the globe to the South Pole. There is a metal fitting at the top of the globe through which you can attach a string should you want to, giving you the option to hang the small globe as a decor accent.

The miniature metal globe is in good condition with some small worn spots to the lithograph.

The toy globe has approximately a 1 3/4" diameter and is approximately 3" tall including the metal fitting and red wood handle.

Vintage Grace Holmes Club Plan mail order catalog for fall winter 1958 - 1959 contains a treasure trove of information on mid-century clothing for men, women, & children, underwear, toys, electronics, housewares, furniture, lamps, bedding,and general household and personal items.

The glossy magazine-type catalog has 318 pages and includes a handy index.

The catalog is in remarkable condition, but it does show wear mostly around the edges and at the top and bottom of the spine. The cover has a few small tears most notably on the front cover bottom edge. The pages are clean.

The cover of this vintage Bellas Hess mail order catalog is truly amazing, capturing the bustle of the New York City just before the stock market crash of 1929 which led to the Great Depression. The scene is a hive of activity centered on Times Square. The street is filled with automobiles and trolley cars. The sidewalks are filled with people. There are planes and a blimp flying in the air space, and American flags waving in the breeze.

Open the vintage catalog, and you'll find the latest roaring 20s fashions, including women's dress, shoes, men's clothing, children's clothing, coats for the entire family, furs, glove, boots & shoes, hats, watches, toys, fabric, bedding, general household items, beauty products, and more. The large-format catalog is a terrific 1920s resource.

The catalog is in acceptable condition for its age. It was not printed on high-quality paper. The paper is tanned with lots of small tears at the edges. The cover shows wear particularly at the edges with rips, creases, tears and paper loss. The spine shows wear with paper loss. Please note the damage at the bottom of the spine and front cover. Binding is tight.

There are cuttings taken from pages 19, 20, 21, 22, 60, & 61.

There are also a number of finely cut illustrations, mostly men and a few woman, that do not appear to have been clipped from this particular catalog (see photograph 5).

Issued in 1943, the vintage World War 2 homefront poster is a rare smaller-size version of Couillard's poster measuring 14 inches by 10 inches.

The vintage bank does not have a release hole and was designed to be broken when full.

This beautiful set of six (6) tumblers from Russel Wright's classic Residential line of melamine dinnerware would be an amazing addition to any Mid Century modern design collection. True vintage pieces of Russel Wright melamine and pottery are getting harder to find, and this set is in excellent condition for its age showing minimal wear.

Wright's Residential melmac line won the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) Good Design Award in 1953 & 1954. Made in Boston by Northern Industrial Chemical Company, the tumblers have a sleek modern design and cool orange color, known as Salmon Red.

Tumblers are approximately 3 1/4 inches tall with a 2 inch bottom diameter and an 8 oz ( 1 cup) capacity.

Unique vintage miniature moon globe would make a special gift or decor accent in your home or office. Made of metal, the small moon globe is set on a heavy brass base making it ideal for use as a paperweight. The base is ringed with Roman numerals.

The mini globe shows a detailed map surface with various topographical features of the moon landscape indicated in red and black lettering.

The moon globe and the base may not be original to each other and appear to have been put together by a previous owner. The moon is secured to the base with a rusted bolt that can no longer be fully tightened thus giving you the ability to rotate the moon on the base.

The vintage metal globe shows light surface wear and has a small dent near the Democritus crater.

The miniature moon globe has approximately a 1 1/2" diameter and stands about 2 3/4" tall on its base.

Modern Life Speller is a vintage children's school book with a charming decorative cover showing airplanes flying over a cityscape with radio towers emitting radio waves into the sky. The cool cover would make a fun display in a classroom, nursery, or kid's room.

Published in 1936 by the World Book Company, this is the teacher examination version not the student edition. The book shows some dust soiling on the cover, light shelf wear, and paper tanning from age, but does not appear to have been used in a classroom. The vintage book comes with a Modern-Life Speller flyer which explains the teaching method.
