This fantastic set of antique Jennings Brothers bookends depicts a stern Dante and his beautiful Beatrice. A rare Jennings Brothers find with a green polychrome paint finish, these vintage bookends would make a super gift for the literature buff or a dramatic statement on your library shelf.

Founded in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1890, the Jennings Brothers foundry was known for high-quality, hand-finished castings. The bookends are finely made with detailed, expressive faces.

This Dante and Beatrice bookend set is very rare to find with a polychrome finish. The bookends are very heavy. Each one has the Jennings Brothers "J.B." hallmark along with a casting number on the back -- 2484 on Dante and 2485 on Beatrice. The bookends are old and show typical signs of wear and a patina of age. The green polychrome paint is scratched off and worn in places, most notably on the figures's noses and on the back of Dante. The tip of Beatrice's nose is flatten. The bookends have been dusted but have not been given a deep cleaning.

Woven from splint ash and sweetgrass, these antique Penobscot Indian baskets are beautiful examples of handmade basketry. The decorative baskets can be used for storage or displayed as home decor.

Dating from the 1910s, these baskets came out of the estate of woman who spent her youthful summers at Camp Mudjekeewis in Lowell, Maine. The baskets are old and show wear and a dusty patina of age. The larger basket's lid has a hand sewn repair. The small basket's lid handle is unwoven on one end. Overall, the 100 year-old basket set shows its age but has a nice rustic country decor charm.


Larger basket has a 9 1/8" diameter and is approximately 4" deep.
Smaller basket has a 7 3/4" diameter and is approximately 3 1/4" deep.

This circa 1900 copy of Jules Verne's Among the Cannibals includes The Mysterious Document and On The Track which together are an English translation of Les Enfants du Capitaine Grant. An illustrated edition of this Verne work, the book has green cloth covered boards, a graphic cover with gold gilt lettering, and chapter title drawings by Henry Austin.

The highly decorative book cover would make a terrific decor accent in a library, office, or man cave.

The cover has noticeable wear particularly on the top and base of the spine including some loss and chipping. The pages are tanned with age.

I've noted an irregularity in the pagination of the book. Each story in the volume begins with an unpaginated page and then the next page is numbered "10" instead of "2."

In the Among The Cannibals section the chapter illustration and the first page (the unpaginated page and page 10) are detached from the book. Pages 10, 11, and 12 have residue of tape at the tops and bottom (see photograph four).

Originally published in France as Les Enfants du Capitaine Grant, this set of stories was then published in England by George Routledge and Sons as a three volume set titled A Voyage Around the World. It has also been published in English as In Search of the Castaways; or the Children of Captain Grant.

"Look for the union label..."

Vintage Lucite bookends proudly displays The International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) label. This rare bookend set dates from the early 1980s and is a very cool piece of industrial history.

Founded in 1900, and at its peak one of largest labor unions in the United States, the ILGWU was a major influence in American labor history. In 1995, the ILGWU merged with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union forming Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE), which in turn merged in 2004 with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE) creating a new union known as UNITE HERE.

These are genuine vintage acrylic bookends from the 1980s. The Lucite blocks are mounted on a metal base which have rubber bottoms to protect furniture surfaces. The acrylic has a patina of age and some light scratches.

Incredible set of antiquarian leather books, this collection of Antique Gems from the Latin and Greek was published by subscription in 1902 by George Barrie & Son, Philadelphia. Each custom printed set was bound according to the subscribers specifications. This antique book set is bound in three quarter Morocco leather, green with brown spine, and light green cloth. The spines have gold gilt designs and lettering.

Subscription number 685 of 1000 sets published, this collection belonged to Percy Chubb the founder of Chubb Insurance. Each volume has Chubb's personal bookplate pasted on the inside front endpaper.

Each book has the Latin or Greek text on one side with the English translation on the facing page. The books are beautifully illustrated and printed on high quality Japanese vellum paper.

Books are in very good condition with rubbing and wear evident at the corners and along the edges. Pages are clean. The books were on a library shelf untouched for years and have some dust soiling along the top edges.

This impressive book set would be an amazing & very special gift for a book lover, Classics buff, or a lawyer or corporate executive who has been promoted to the corner office.

These vintage drink & snack trays have beautiful hand painted ocean scenes with seashores, starfish, conch, and fishes on a black matte background. The small trays would make an interesting wall decor accent in a beach house or coastal cottage.

Vintage Catholic pamphlet uses cute babies and humor to motivate church goers to give more money. Published by Catechetical Guild, the back of the booklet sites that the pictures were "Suggestions by a Redemptorist Father," and includes information about the tax deductibility of gifts to the church. The pamphlet also has a stamp on the back from the "Catholic Book Shop of New York."

This is a genuine vintage pamphlet from the 1950s not a reproduction. As such, it shows typical wear and the passage of time.

This circa 1930s Koh I Noor L & C Hardtmuth dip pen holders set is an amazing find. The nib holders are in excellent condition on their original cardboard display board. The set includes a nice selection of wood pen holders perfect for calligraphy work or displaying as a unique decor element in your office or studio.

The set includes six (6) vintage pen holders. One pen has a cork holder. One pen has a decorative marbled paper accent. Pens are in amazing condition. All are unused. The cardboard display board shows light shelf wear and has a crease on the upper left-hand side. The elastic stays have lost their elasticity and the pens slid out easily.

This mid-century vintage Replogle globe is mounted on a rare Welch Scientific base designed by William A. Hall and referred to as the Hall Tellurian Globe having many functions similar to an orrery. The metal base has an adjustable blue dial with constellations, zodiac signs, seasons, the months and days of the year.

The mount houses a 12 inch Replogle Reference Globe designed and edited by the cartographer Gustav Brueckmann. The globe dates to the early 1950s and the beginning of the Cold War Era. Vietnam is divided by north and south. East Germany is marked "Soviet Zone."

The globe is in good condition showing typical dust soiling, spots, and a few very small areas of paper loss. The base dial is in beautiful condition. However the mount is not complete. It has its full meridian indicating sun rise and sun set lines but is missing its steel ferules indicated night and day.

This slim volume of poems and proverbs was part of the New York City Public School curriculum back in the 1920s and 1930s, a time when education included a fair amount of memorization.

Organized by categories such as nature, patriotism, home and friends, humor, seasons and festivals, the poems, specifically selected for children, include verses by Christina G. Rossetti, William Blake, Robert Louis Stevenson, Hilaire Belloc, and more.

The vintage school book has decorative endpapers with a New York City Board of Education check-out sheet pasted on the front endpaper, as well as a red "Property of Board of Education" stamp on the title page. The book is in overall good condition with typical wear on the cover, some soiling and spotting, and tanning of pages.

An incredible example of crewel embroidery, this vintage textile needlework piece can be transformed into a wall hanging or pillow cover.

Worked on a white linen background with wool thread in a vibrant 1970s flower design, the crewel embroidery is complete and in very good condition. The linen fabric, measuring 35 inches x 17 inches, has been folded in half and has a crease line. There are a few spots that should come out with washing. Note the word "top" below the crease line above the crewel work. Black basting stitches outline the pillow cover back dimension. There is a dry cleaners tag pinned to one corner.

Ready for finishing, you can make a pillow cover, frame it for a wall hanging, or use it in another craft project.

Vintage Nova Scotia Tartan platter, this bone china serving piece was made in England by Royal Albert. The pink and blue Royal Albert hallmark dates the plate to circa 1962 to the 1970s.

The Nova Scotia Tartan motif is rendered in wonderful blue, green, and gold plaid ribbons with a large bow and lion crest. The decorative platter has a delicate gold trim.

The Nova Scotia Tartan was the first provincial tartan in Canada.

The decorative serving platter is in good condition. The dish has a few manufacturing imperfections that appear to be stray marks of paint under the glaze. See photographs two & three.

Vintage art poster from the Cold War era, this striking image by I. Spreekmeester (aka Isidore Leonard Spreekmeester) was a fifth place winner in the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living 1950 poster contest sponsored by the European Recovery Program (ERP), more popularly known as the Marshall Plan.

Spreekmeester (1914 - 2000) was a well known Dutch magazine illustrator, the author of several children's books, and a courtroom artist for the NOS broadcasting company.

The European Recovery Plan (ERP) or Marshall Plan (1948 - 1951), conceived by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during WW II & Truman's Secretary of State, sought to politically stabilize & rebuild the economies of war-torn European countries while hindering the spread of Communism.

A panel of graphic artists from countries benefiting from the Marshall Plan, selected 25 winning posters from over 10,000 entries. The posters are graphically stunning pieces of political propaganda and historically interesting bits of ephemera from the early Cold War era.

The poster is an original poster, not a reproduction. The poster is in excellent vintage condition with just some minor wear at around the edges.

The poster has been stored flat.

Miniature Mid Century owl figurine trio will add a charming touch to your home or office decor. Made in Denmark, the vintage pottery owls are super cute and would make a great gift for a new mom and dad or owl lover.

The vintage owl figures are in very good condition having no chips or cracks and minimal wear to the glaze. Two of the owls are stamped "Denmark" on the bottom. The largest owl also has a marker stamp, but it is very hard to read.

Owls range in size from 2 3/4" for the tallest and a mere 1 1/4" for the baby owl.

New old stock vintage Esterbrook Penesco No 509 Medium stub italic calligraphy dip pen nibs are a rare find. Made in Camden, New Jersey, there are 144 (a gross) steel pen nibs in each box.

Each box offered in this listing is in unused vintage condition and has never been opened. Some of the box seals are intact and some of seals are broken.

This listing is for one box of vintage Esterbrook Penesco No 509 Medium Stub nibs. The slide-open box design and the Penesco tag dates the manufacturing of these nibs to the 1940s.

Smith's Map of Philadelphia & Vicinity is an interesting document showing the area as it was in 1894.

The antique 2-section map is attached to hardcover book boards with gold gilt title lettering. The boards were once joined but have split apart over time from age and use. The hand-colored maps are detailed and quite attractive but are not in good condition.

The "New Map of Philadelphia and Vicinity" is in two sections as published. The map sections are fragile, and tanned with age with multiple splits at the folds. There is a purple stamp from the "Cycling Publishing Company" on the bottom right corner of the main section. The other map section has split entirely across one fold as shown in photographs 4 & 5.

A good map or paper conservator could restore this beautiful map.
