Daily Maxims A Birthday Text-Book of Proverbs and Wise Sayings is a charming miniature antique book with an inspirational quote for each day of the year.

Designed for the owner to keep track of birthdays, the small vintage book has the days of the year on one side with a blank spaces for names on the other. Each page has a lovely border design.

The book can be used as intended or as a journal.

This is an antique book from the 1800s. It shows typical wear with light soiling and spotting on the cover, tanning paper, a small chip on the cover on the back just behind the spine, some light crumbling at the bottom of a few pages. The pages are clean. The book has not been used as intended and has no markings other than an inscription on the front endpaper " Best Wishes, Fred Norton."

This trio of vintage laboratory glass bottles would look great on display by themselves or as part of larger grouping of chemistry glass.


I gave the bottles a light cleaning, preserving the patina of age. The bottles have residue and soiling inside. Should you prefer, you could certainly give them deep cleaning and remove the labels.

The smallest bottle does not have a stopper. It is marked " T.C.W. Co. U.S.A. 4" on the bottom. The medium-size bottle has the number "91" on the front of it, a glass stopper, and is marked "Wheaton USA" on the bottom. The largest bottle has a glass stopper marked "Pyrex 24." The stopper is chipped around the base that inserts into the bottle. The bottle is marked "Trade Mark F-8 Pyrex R Made in U.S.A." on the bottom.

These bottles are part of a collection I recently acquired from a chemist who worked for Fritzsche, a company that made essential oils and chemicals for the perfume industry, back in the 1960s.

Classic mid-century metal toy safe bank has a combination lock and plenty of room to hold coins and other small items you might like to stash safely away.

The vintage metal coin bank stands almost 9 inches tall and has a slot on top for coins, a shelf inside, and working combination lock. The safe's combination is on a removal sticker on top of the bank which also indicates the metal toy was made by the Bellevue Mfg, Co., in Bellevue, Ohio.

This is a genuine vintage toy from the 1950s - early 1960s. The toy bank was used gently, but does show signs of age and wear including scratches, marks, and dings.

Set of three vintage books from the prestigious McGraw-Hill Electrical and Electronic Engineering Series would make an interesting decor accent in a high-tech digital office or workshop. The vintage computer science books have decorative black & red bindings and are filled with line illustrations and mathematical engineering formulas.

The books are in good condition, if a bit dusty from sitting on a shelf unused for many years. The pages are tanned with age. The previous owner (John G. Gibbon) wrote his name in blue ink on the front endpaper of each book.

Adorable, chippy, and old, this small vintage pig figurine is big on personality.

She appears to be cast out of plaster or some sort of composite material. She has nice detailing and an expressive face.

Sometime back in the late 1800s, a small boy boy holding a lion tamer's whip prop stared with a tentative, almost frightened gaze at a Berlin, Germany studio photographer's camera. Over one hundred years later, his image survives on three antique carte de visite.

These carte de visite are part of a treasure trove of photographs from one Berlin family. I have other photographs of this child as well as his parents and sibling. The collection is an interesting visual glimpse into the life of a wealthy German family in the late 1800s into the early part of the 20th century.


Carte de visite were invented in Paris by André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854. He also developed a method of producing eight separate negatives on one plate making it easier to produce multiple cards of an identical image. In the mid to late 1800s, carte de visite became all the rage and were traded among friends and relatives.

Cards are in good condition for their age showing typical wear including scratches, edge wear, rubbing, fading, and spotting. Each card has the number "3225" written on the back in pencil and as well as the gold gilt stamp of Samson & Co Berlin. The back of one card is obviously darkened with age.

Framed together, these striking carte de visite would make an unusual and unique piece of nursery or boy's room decor.

Cards measure approximate 4 1/8" x 2 1/2".

Vintage hand-sewn Muslim kufi cap has a hand embroidered design stitched in metallic thread and faux pearls. Also referred to as a taquiyah or topi, this beautiful vintage hat can be worn or displayed.

From the estate of a textile collector, the velvet hat is from the early 20th century and was gently worn. There are a few stray threads and light wear to the velvet.

The velvet cap is lined with a mauve taffeta fabric. You can see the hand stitching. The embroidery motif is a series of leaves alternating with trees.

Hat has an 8" diameter and 22 1/2" circumference.

Published by Kofoed in 1945 and distributed by Conel Books, this treasure trove of hollywood movie star pictures includes brief biographies of the actors and actresses. Opposite each photograph is a page for fans to log in movies they're seen, where, when, stars, supporting casts, and comments.

For some reason, the publisher chose to put a not very glamorous photograph of Van Johnson on the cover.

With her gorgeous blue eyes, glamorous dress, and dramatic coif, this 1960s beauty is a stunner against the dark blue background of this vintage hair salon poster.

Published in Chicago by Hair Style of the Month, this original poster was produced for display in hair and beauty salons across the United States. The poster is printed on sturdy coated paper and has an image on both sides.

This poster was displayed in a Chicago hair salon and shows wear. One side of the double-sided poster is slightly faded from the sun. There is a tear on one side and a dark spot on one side of the poster near the top.The poster was stored rolled up for many years. A good framer would be able to straighten it out and make an amazing wall hanging.

Measurements: 20" x 16".

Antique pencil sharpener made in Germany circa 1914 has a gold Atlas figure holding up a world globe. The vintage miniature globe shows a simplified version of the world's political boundaries before World War I including the Chinese Empire, St. Petersburg, the Congo State, and the British Dominion (Canada).

The miniature transfer painted metal globe has a deep patina of age showing typical wear for a tin toy that is over 100 years old. The pencil sharpening device is present but does not sharpen. There is a dent on the base rim (see photograph 2).

The vintage world globe pencil sharpener would be an interesting accent piece in your office and would make a unique gift.

This beautiful lacquer box once belonged to Walter T. Steves, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. The lacquer cigarette box was a gift to Col. Steves from Col. Nguyen Duc De, Chief Adjunct General, Joint General State of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces.

The lacquer box has four beautiful Vietnamese women on the lid and hinges open to reveal three tiered cigarette shelves.

The shelves are made of wood and have metal hinges. The top shelf has slots for 15 thin cigarettes. The middle shelf has slots for 15 thicker cigarettes, and the bottom shelf has 8 slots that look as though they could accommodate small cigars.

The box was used in its time and shows wear. There are scuffs and scratches on the lacquer as well as a few small chips along front edge. The presentation box has a blue plaque on the side which reads:

I found a reference to Col. Walter T. Steves. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He is buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. His grave stone indicates that he served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Jess Stearn, a sceptic reporter, was totally transformed in body and soul after a four month regimen of yoga and mediation. Written way back in 1965 before yoga became mainstream in America, this is an insightful and collectable book.

This is a scarce first edition copy of Stearn's yoga instruction book published in 1965. The vintage book is in good condition. Akro Agate miniature slag glass flower pot is simply adorable. Known as a thumb pot, Akro made these flower pots in 1930s in various colors. This pot is made out of white & green swirled glass.

The flower pot is in good vintage condition. It has a few manufacturing flaws, a slightly protruding translucent edge left behind from the glass mold (see photograph 2), but no chips or cracks.

The pot is marked on the bottom with the Akro symbol and "Made in U.S.A."

This tiny flower pot is 2 1/2" tall with a 1 1/2" bottom diameter.

Impressive tall green glass vase has a dramatic black parrot & floral transfer design reminiscent of silver overlay designs found on glass Rockwell vases of the Art Deco period. This is a beautiful and unusual vintage vase.

I'm not sure exactly when this vase was made, as it does not have a markers mark, but its styling and manufacturing clues indicate that is was most likely made in the 1930s - 1940s.

The glass is not actually green. It has a paint transfer coating giving it the effect of cased glass. There are seams on each side of the green paint transfer but the seams are not evident inside the vase.

The vase shows wear including scratches, paint loss, and soiling.

Approximately 10" tall, 5" at its widest point, 3" base diameter.
