Vintage 1940s American Airline brochures harken back to the early days of commercial air travel. This awesome group of aviation advertising brochures comes in a nifty folder marked "The American Airlines System" &"Business," "Airfreight," &"Pleasure." The folder holds 7 brochures promoting American Airlines the new DC-6 & the Convair. American refers to them as their "5- Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet."
In the late 1940s American Airlines had three branches, American Airlines Inc., American Overseas Airlines, Inc., & American Airlines De Mexico, S.A. In 1950, Pan American Airways bought the American Overseas Airlines division.
These colorful brochures were printed and lithographed in the U.S.A.
7 Brochures include:
1. Take Your Family with You For Only Half Fare -- This small format brochure measures 6" x 3" folded and 8 3/4" x 6" fully open.
2. American Airlines 5-Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet -- Measuring 9" x 4" closed, this brochure opens to a small poster size measuring 15 3/4" x 17 1/2". The brochure highlights American Airline's new flagship aircraft, the DC-6 & the Convair. It has a map of the current airline routes including American Airlines, "other airline," &"American Airline system - International routes not yet in operation." The map is dated 1948 and was drawn by the General Drafting Company. The brochure brags that the DC-6 will get you from New York to Los Angeles in 11 hrs 10 minutes in "Living Room Comfort."
3. Why Be An Ostrich About Wintertime Air Travel? 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Brochure assures the potential winter air traveler that "American's Five-Mile-A-Minute Fleet is equipped with special devices, engineered specifically to meet seasonal conditions."
4. It's So Easy to go to Mexico - With a strapping matador on the cover this brochure measures 9" x 4" closed and 9" x 19 3/4" open. It includes an air traffic route map for the U.S.A. & Mexico.
5. Europe in Winter in Comfort by American Flagship - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Include American Airlines system map for USA and European routes. Boasts that it will get your to London from New York in 13 hours & 55 minutes.
6. The Sun Country - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 19 3/4" open. Cover entices the traveler to "Give winter the go-by - find your place in the sun - go American to Arizona Texas California New Mexico." Has map showing the "Southern Sunshine Route."
7. American Airlines Maps - Routes of the Flagships. 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. One side of this brochure opens to a full page color lithographed American Airlines route map for the U.S.A. Mexico & Cuba with indicators to their international routes. The other side shows American Overseas Airlines, Inc. routes to Europe.
The envelope folder measures 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" closed & 9 3/4" x 14" open.
The folder and brochures are in very good condition for their age. They show wear around the edges.

Vintage Vera Neumann blouse from the 1980s complete with shoulder pads and original tags is a wonderful example of the company's use of color. The color blocks pop to a very pleasing effect against a gray background.
The top has its original Vera tag with a plug for Woolite, a Vera ladybug label, and a "Crafted with Pride in U.S.A." tag. Created by magnate Roger Milliken in the early 1980s, the "Crafted with Pride" campaign was an effort to raise awareness of the dwindling textile & garment industry jobs in the U.S.A, and an attempt to get citizens to buy American.
Pair this cool blouse with jeans or a formal skirt for a radical vintage look.
This Vera shirt is in excellent condition. The blouse is clean and ready to wear. The polyester is very silky with a wonderful drape.

Circa 1950 atlas of greater London is filled with colorful old maps of the city. Housed in an attractive red hardcover book with gold title lettering, the atlas has over 138 sectional vintage maps of London including the outer suburbs. A wonderful historical document as so much of the landscape has changed in 60 years, the vintage maps can be used as a reference, or displayed as decor.

Trio of vintage glass Christmas ornaments made in Poland in the 1940s will bring a lovely sparkle to your tree. Made of hand blown glass, the teardrop ornaments are decorated with white mica flakes. One ornament has red stripes with silver, another has gold, blue, & dark pink stripes, and the third one has gold, dark pink, & sea foam green stripes.
Each ornaments has a metal cap for hanging. Two of the caps are marked "Poland."
The ornaments are in good vintage condition showing typical wear including scratches, oxidation marks, and light soiling.
Ornaments are approximately 4 1/4 inches long with a 2 1/2 inch diameter.

Children Love Wonder Books!
Wonder Books with washable covers were mainstay reading for the baby boomer generation. They were found in schools, doctor and dentist offices, libraries, and local bookshops. This marvelous vintage store display sign advertises Wonder Books at their 1950s price -- a mere 25 cents per title.
This genuine vintage sign is perfect for any decor, hang it in the nursery, child's room, office, man cave, or library.
Constructed out of rigid pressboard, the sign is in good vintage condition. It has some nicks, mostly around the edges, a few scratches, and soiling from hanging in a book shop and being in storage for many years.
Sign measures 22 inches long x 6 inches high.

This Joe St Clair glass paperweight is intriguing and impressive, and would make a great teacher's gift. The hand blown art glass paperweight has a lovely iridescent finish. The vintage paperweight dates from the late 1970s - early 1980s and is signed "St Clair" on the bottom.

An interesting handwritten accounting journal chronicles a French household's expenses from January 1912 through April 1914. There are references and expense logs for many accoutrements of daily life including allumettes (matches), cadeau fête (festival gifts), costume de bain (bathing suit), eau de cologne, livres (books), fleurs (flowers), blouses, savon (soap) and more. There are numerous notations for "washing" which appears to be a reference for laundry. There are also many personal names noted in the journal.
The diary is bound in burgundy leather with hand-marbled endpapers and page edges and is in good condition for its age. There is a shop sticker on the back endpaper from Boyard-Obert a fournitures de bureau (office supply shop) in Le Harve.

Antique Japanese porcelain box from the late Meiji early Taisho period (circa 1910s) has a delicate hand-painted floral design. The small decorative trinket box can be used on a dresser for jewelry or as an elegant and practical organizer for small items on an office desk.
The vintage ceramic trinket box is approximately 100-years old and shows wear from the passage of time and use. These is some paint loss, a tiny flea bite on the box rim, and some soiling on the bottom. The antique box is signed in red Japanese characters.

Lovely vintage Hungarian Matyo dolls in traditional regional folk costumes would make an amazing addition to any doll collection. Rare to find in a set, the dolls have plaster faces and fabric bodies.
The detailed costumes include aprons with classic Matyo embroidery designs. The female dolls wears a traditional pompom headdress indicating marriage, as well as a costume with exaggerated puffed sleeves and a peplum adorned with lace.
The dolls are in good condition, but please note that the dolls are vintage and do show age appropriate wear. The man's hat is attached to his head with two pins which are loose. He has some paint loss on the back of his head.

Wonderful vintage children's picture book published in 1942 by Holiday House has an engaging story and vivid color illustrations by Rafaello Busoni. The charming children's book would make a great gift for the budding world traveler or Australia buff. The decorative dust jacket illustration can be displayed as a unique decor element in a travel themed room.
This is a genuine vintage book not a recent reprint. As such, the book shows age appropriate wear for a used children's book. The dust jacket has small tears along the ends and obvious wear on the spine as well as an ink stamp "school No. 56." Pages are clean. Binding is tight.

Trio of vintage lab glass bottles will lend a scientific touch to your home decor. Vintage chemistry glass bottles make unique vases. Fill the vintage apothecary bottles with flowers and line them up on your holiday table, or fill them with small colorful buttons or beads.
Made long ago by the T. C. Wheaton Glass Company in Millville, N.J., the old glass bottles show wear but have no chips or cracks. The vintage bottles were once very dirty and were soaked and then cleaned in a delicate dishwasher cycle. Despite these cleaning efforts, some soiling remains in the bottles.
Two bottles are approximately 5 1/2 tall and are marked "T.C.W. Co. U.S.A." on the bottom.
The third bottle is slightly taller and is marked "Vitro U.S.A." on the side and "Wheaton U.S.A." on the bottom. The apothecary bottles have approximately 2 1/2" base diameters.
Bottle hold approximately 250 ml of liquid.

Radical feminist pamphlet from the 1960s succinctly outlines the issues, problems, and various layers of the women's liberation movement recognizing that the women's rights movement needs to address sexism as well as economic oppression.
The vintage feminist publication has the complete text of James Oppenheim's Bread and Roses, a song poem inspired by the political slogan coined by Rose Schneiderman the American socialist, feminist, and labor leader.
The pamphlet has a cartoon drawing of Popeye questioning Olive Oyl's upraised fist on the cover.
This is a genuine vintage political pamphlet from 1969 not a recent reprint. The cover shows wear with a one-inch tear at the bottom of the paper cover. Pages are clean. Stapled binding is in good condition.

The European Recovery Program (ERP) or Marshall Plan (1948 - 1951), conceived by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during WW II & Truman's Secretary of State, sought to politically stabilize & rebuild the economies of war-torn European countries while hindering the spread of Communism.
Held in 1950, the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living poster contest, drew over 10,000 entries. A panel of graphic artists selected 25 winning posters. The posters are graphically stunning pieces of political propaganda and historically interesting bits of ephemera from the early Cold War era.
This poster is an original poster, not a reproduction. The poster is in excellent vintage condition with just some minor wear around the edges. The poster has been stored flat.

Serve your after dinner coffee on Christmas in this silver plate coffee pot for a dramatic finish to your festive feast. Made by Poole Silver, this beautiful silverplate serving pot can be used for coffee or tea. Silver-plate coffee pots are traditional favorites that are both functional and decorative.
The heavy high-quality coffee pot was finely rendered from copper alloy electroplated with silver. The silver plating, and the coffee pot in general, are in very good condition. I shined it up a bit, but left a bit of the nice patina of age particularly on the feet, handle and spout. Should you choose, this pot should polish up to a high shine.
The coffee pot is marked on the bottom "EPCA Bristol Silverplate by Poole 141."
The coffee pot is approximately 10 3/4" tall by 9 3/4" wide including the spout and handle, by 5" at its deepest point.
