Back in the 1930s & 1940s, H.H. Nininger amassed a large collection of meteorites, which are meteoroids (the scientific name for falling or shooting stars) that eventually fall to earth. His collection, the largest personal one at the time, was so vast, he created and maintained a museum for them.
Known as the father of modern meteoritics, Nininger operated The American Meteorite Museum first in Meteor Crater, Arizona, and then in Sedona. The collection was ultimately sold to the British Museum and the Arizona State University Center for Meteorite Studies.
Out of The Sky is Nininger's introduction to the science of meteoritics. This is a rare signed first edition copy of this important science book. The book is inscribed to Paul Weber and dated April 21, 1957 from Sedona, Arizona.
The book is in overall good condition showing typical wear particularly around the cover and page edges. The tops of some pages are a bit crumpled. The pages are beginning to brown with age (light foxing), again mostly around the edges, but the paper is not crumbling. There are brown age-related spots on the endpapers. The dust jacket shows wear, including rubbing and tears, as well as extensive chipping and paper loss around the edges.
