This vintage Lousil Manufacture gold eyed needle booklet is, well, Over the Top, not just in name, but graphically. Produced in Germany shortly after the conclusion of World War 1, the vintage needle book depicts doughboys in the trenches and charging through a horrific battle scene. The cover is clean, and bright.

The back cover shows a woman sitting at a table threading a needle with the caption "The Housewives' Delight," and that the needle "assortment contains Bodkin, Darning, Wool, Yarn, Cotton, Carpet, and Button Needles. There is a small bit of paper loss at the top right-hand corner of the back cover.

Obviously made for the American market, as the text is all in English, the antique needle booklet is in remarkably good condition for its age. And, the needle set is almost complete, missing only five (5) needles as follows:

8 size 4 (originally 10)
8 Size 3/9 (originally 10)
12 Size 1 (originally 15)

Most of the needles show corrosion.

A resource treasure trove of early 1900s Arts & Crafts Movement decorative arts and home building, this antique bound set of American Homes and Gardens contains the magazine's complete run for the year 1908.

The large-format hardcover volume has an amazing decorative cover fit for display. The bound magazines are packed with information including detailed articles on notable homes of the period, home floor plans & diagrams, gardening, home furnishings, advertisements, crafts and handiwork. All but January's issue has a beautiful color cover. Each magazine contains black & white photographs and illustrations.

Within the decorative cover of this vintage book is the riveting story of Jean-Pierre Hallet's journey through Central Africa's Congo. Kitabu means diary in Swahili, and it aptly captures Hallet's travel adventure, and the life and spirit of the region.

The book is in very good condition. The dust jacket while bright and clean, has several tears and some paper loss. The volume has decorative endpaper showing the African territory covered in the book. Previous owners name stamp on front dust jacket flap. The book has several sections of black & white photographs. Pages are clean.

Bright and cheery in shades of yellow & green, with a dash of dark blue, this vintage crochet afghan is a stunner. Handmade back in the 1970s, the blanket was crocheted with acrylic yarn in a variety of stitch patterns.

Handmade vintage textiles remind me of the continuity between generations. Forty years or so ago, someone took the time to make a blanket for her family. She most likely learned the stitches she used to make the afghan from her mother or grandmother, who learned the stitches from her mother, and on it goes back into history. Crochet is an ancient art and this afghan is a fine 1970s example of that art.

Made from sturdy and warm yarn, this blanket is in excellent vintage condition. No holes, tears or fading.

Beautiful plaid taffeta ribbon with picot trim in lovely colors, each one of these ribbon spools is unopened with its original cellophane wrapper intact. Spools have the Hyman Hendler label as well as a label identifying the ribbon as pattern Versailles, made in France of 100% Rayon.

This vintage dish is a lovely example of mid-century modern copper enamel work. The colorful swirl ed abstract design on the enamel plate provides a pleasing contrast against the brown background.

The bottom of the bowl is finished in a shades of green and blue, and has an artist incised signature.

Genuine vintage copper enamel plate circa 1960 shows typical wear for a used decorative item. The surface of the enamel has some light scratches. There is a faint ring inside the bowl that looks like a watermark.

Nifty classic 1930s vintage glass door knob set made by Corbin in the U.S.A. comes in its original box along with nine screws.

The box was stored for many years, and shows wear including tears and soiling. The crystal door knobs are in good condition. The brass shows signs of age. The spindle piece connecting the two glass knobs has light rust.

Glass knobs have an approximate 2 inch diameter.

Lucite, acrylic, plexiglas, no matter what you call it, this transparent thermoplastic resin is big on retro style.


The bowl measures approximately 13 inches across at its widest point, and 7 1/2 inches at its tallest point.

This is a genuine vintage lucite bowl from the 1970s in good condition. The bowl has some light scratches from use.

Published in 1961, Anatomy of a Bullfight by Arthur Greenfield, with beautiful illustrations by E. de G., explains the intricacies and rituals of modern bullfighting, a sport with an ancient roots that can be traced back to prehistoric bull worship and bull sacrifices of ancient Mesopotamia.

This is a vintage book published in 1961 not a recent reprint. The book shows signs of wear and the passage of time, yet is in very good condition. The pages are clean. The binding is tight. The dust jacket shows discoloration and wear around the edges including tears, creases, and paper loss.

Vintage first aid kit supplies includes an unopened bottle of Hynson Westcott Dunning's Mercurochrome with a red rubber stopper, along with an unopened Johnson & Johnson Red Cross Bandage and adhesive tape roll.

Back in the 1950s & 1960s, red-stained Mercurochrome scrapes and bruises where a common sight on the playground. With the growing awareness of the dangers of mercury, Mercurochrome fell out of favor.

Mercurochrome was Hyson Westcott Dunning's brand name for the topical antiseptic merbromin.

This cool kit of retro medical supplies would make a fun prop or decor accent in a medical office.

Made to promote several Swiss department stores, these lovely cotton handkerchiefs were given away as souvenirs. The rose bouquets are tied with a ribbon printed Jelmoli in Zürich, Innovation Lausanne, & Au Grand Passage Geneva. Each vintage hanky has its original foil sticker marked "Nelo Swiss Made."

The handkerchiefs would make special gifts for the mother-of-the bride & mother-of the groom.

First published in 1909, Games for Playground, Home, School, and Gymnasium written by Jessie H. Bancroft, Assistant Director of Physical Training in The New York Public Schools, gives an interesting insight into the era before electronic games and the Internet when children spent time out doors playing a wide variety of games.

The volume has a beautiful decorative cover suitable for display in a child's room or as nursery decor.

The book is in very good condition. It comes with its original paper dust jacket which although torn at the top, has protected the decorative cover and binding. The binding is tight and the pages are clean. The front right-hand side endpaper has an ink stamped name of a previous owner, "Wm. L Buchner."

Included with the book are two typed sheet of bible study questions and ten small hand-written slips of paper with biblical names on them.

The book covers games for each age and grade level, brief historical information, how to select teams and who is "it," singing games, ball games, active games, quiet games, camp games, and more. The book is filled with line drawing illustrations and diagrams as well as photographs.

Planet flash cards from Rand McNally are super cool. These vintage school flash cards have a beautiful image of the solar system on one side with an indicating arrow to "Name This Planet," and information, circa 1960, about the planet in question on the back.

The set includes nine (9) cards, one for each planet in the Earth's solar system. The cards were once part of a Rand McNally's Know Your Stars and Planets flash card game. I will be listing other sets of flash cards from this game in my shop.

This vintage sterling silver pin is a classic modernist jewelry design from the famed Frank & Regine Juhls Jautokeino, Norway studio.

Dating from the 1970s, the sterling silver brooch has a modern circle design and is back stamped "Juhls" and "925S."

This is a genuine vintage sterling silver pin dating from the 1970s. It shows wear consistent with age and has a lovely patina. I have not polished the sterling, but you could do so with a gentle silver jewelry cleaner for a brighter shine.
