Vintage 1940s American Airline brochures harken back to the early days of commercial air travel. This awesome group of aviation advertising brochures comes in a nifty folder marked "The American Airlines System" &"Business," "Airfreight," &"Pleasure." The folder holds 7 brochures promoting American Airlines the new DC-6 & the Convair. American refers to them as their "5- Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet."
In the late 1940s American Airlines had three branches, American Airlines Inc., American Overseas Airlines, Inc., & American Airlines De Mexico, S.A. In 1950, Pan American Airways bought the American Overseas Airlines division.
These colorful brochures were printed and lithographed in the U.S.A.

1. Take Your Family with You For Only Half Fare -- This small format brochure measures 6" x 3" folded and 8 3/4" x 6" fully open.
2. American Airlines 5-Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet -- Measuring 9" x 4" closed, this brochure opens to a small poster size measuring 15 3/4" x 17 1/2". The brochure highlights American Airline's new flagship aircraft, the DC-6 & the Convair. It has a map of the current airline routes including American Airlines, "other airline," &"American Airline system - International routes not yet in operation." The map is dated 1948 and was drawn by the General Drafting Company. The brochure brags that the DC-6 will get you from New York to Los Angeles in 11 hrs 10 minutes in "Living Room Comfort."
3. Why Be An Ostrich About Wintertime Air Travel? 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Brochure assures the potential winter air traveler that "American's Five-Mile-A-Minute Fleet is equipped with special devices, engineered specifically to meet seasonal conditions."
4. It's So Easy to go to Mexico - With a strapping matador on the cover this brochure measures 9" x 4" closed and 9" x 19 3/4" open. It includes an air traffic route map for the U.S.A. & Mexico.
5. Europe in Winter in Comfort by American Flagship - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Include American Airlines system map for USA and European routes. Boasts that it will get your to London from New York in 13 hours & 55 minutes.
6. The Sun Country - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 19 3/4" open. Cover entices the traveler to "Give winter the go-by - find your place in the sun - go American to Arizona Texas California New Mexico." Has map showing the "Southern Sunshine Route."
7. American Airlines Maps - Routes of the Flagships. 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. One side of this brochure opens to a full page color lithographed American Airlines route map for the U.S.A. Mexico & Cuba with indicators to their international routes. The other side shows American Overseas Airlines, Inc. routes to Europe.
The envelope folder measures 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" closed & 9 3/4" x 14" open.
The folder and brochures are in very good condition for their age. They show wear around the edges.
