This colorful vintage skittles bowling game has 10 wooden pins and 1 ball, and is just the right size for table top playing. A fun retro toy, you don't have to play with it to enjoy it. It looks great displayed on a shelf, and would make a unique gift.

The origins of skittles & bowling can be traced back roughly 3300 years to ancient Egypt. According to its Wikipedia entry, the game concept is deeply entrenched in European history with scores of variations throughout the continent. The Wikipedia entry also has a glossary of skittle terms, my favorite being "Any Old How" defined as "a ball that has missed its intended target, but has knocked over quite a few pins that count towards the score," but I digress.

Condition: Pins and balls are in good condition for a toy that has been played with. Pins and balls have some paint loss, dings, & scratches all of which add to their charm.

Skittles are approximately 6 inches tall.
Ball has a 2 1/4 inch diameter.

Classic vintage embroidered Christmas handkerchief was given as a gift one holiday long ago and was never used by the recipient. In pristine condition, the white cotton Desco Switerzland hanky will be sent to you in its original Bamberger's department store gift box. The delicate handkerchief has a lovely hand embroidered Christmas candle and holly motif.

Included in the gift box is small cotton sachet in the shape of a Christmas ornament embroidered with the same holiday motif as the handkerchief. This is a sweet hanky & sachet set and would make an ideal gift for a handkerchief collector.

The delightful illustrations in this antique children's book would look amazing on display in a child's room or nursery. The antique German children's board book was printed long ago in archaic Gothic German typeface. I believe the antique book is missing at least one board, as there is no title page with author and publisher information.

The book's binding has been reinforced with bookbinding tape. There are three double-sided boards present. The charming illustrations include a woodland scene with a deer, rabbit, and squirrels, a kitchen scene with quarreling siblings, children playing dress up, a summer boating scene, a winter scene with a snowman, and a scene with boys stealing apples from a tree.

Measures approximately 10 1/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches.

Vintage 1940s American Airline brochures harken back to the early days of commercial air travel. This awesome group of aviation advertising brochures comes in a nifty folder marked "The American Airlines System" &"Business," "Airfreight," &"Pleasure." The folder holds 7 brochures promoting American Airlines the new DC-6 & the Convair. American refers to them as their "5- Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet."

In the late 1940s American Airlines had three branches, American Airlines Inc., American Overseas Airlines, Inc., & American Airlines De Mexico, S.A. In 1950, Pan American Airways bought the American Overseas Airlines division.

These colorful brochures were printed and lithographed in the U.S.A.

7 Brochures include:

1. Take Your Family with You For Only Half Fare -- This small format brochure measures 6" x 3" folded and 8 3/4" x 6" fully open.

2. American Airlines 5-Mile-A-Minute Flagship Fleet -- Measuring 9" x 4" closed, this brochure opens to a small poster size measuring 15 3/4" x 17 1/2". The brochure highlights American Airline's new flagship aircraft, the DC-6 & the Convair. It has a map of the current airline routes including American Airlines, "other airline," &"American Airline system - International routes not yet in operation." The map is dated 1948 and was drawn by the General Drafting Company. The brochure brags that the DC-6 will get you from New York to Los Angeles in 11 hrs 10 minutes in "Living Room Comfort."

3. Why Be An Ostrich About Wintertime Air Travel? 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Brochure assures the potential winter air traveler that "American's Five-Mile-A-Minute Fleet is equipped with special devices, engineered specifically to meet seasonal conditions."

4. It's So Easy to go to Mexico - With a strapping matador on the cover this brochure measures 9" x 4" closed and 9" x 19 3/4" open. It includes an air traffic route map for the U.S.A. & Mexico.

5. Europe in Winter in Comfort by American Flagship - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. Include American Airlines system map for USA and European routes. Boasts that it will get your to London from New York in 13 hours & 55 minutes.

6. The Sun Country - 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 19 3/4" open. Cover entices the traveler to "Give winter the go-by - find your place in the sun - go American to Arizona Texas California New Mexico." Has map showing the "Southern Sunshine Route."

7. American Airlines Maps - Routes of the Flagships. 9" x 4" closed; 9" x 12" open. One side of this brochure opens to a full page color lithographed American Airlines route map for the U.S.A. Mexico & Cuba with indicators to their international routes. The other side shows American Overseas Airlines, Inc. routes to Europe.

The envelope folder measures 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" closed & 9 3/4" x 14" open.

The folder and brochures are in very good condition for their age. They show wear around the edges.

Trio of vintage glass Christmas ornaments made in Poland in the 1940s will bring a lovely sparkle to your tree. Made of hand blown glass, the teardrop ornaments are decorated with white mica flakes. One ornament has red stripes with silver, another has gold, blue, & dark pink stripes, and the third one has gold, dark pink, & sea foam green stripes.

Each ornaments has a metal cap for hanging. Two of the caps are marked "Poland."

The ornaments are in good vintage condition showing typical wear including scratches, oxidation marks, and light soiling.

Gorgeous vintage powder compact with raised metal flower details encrusted with prong set rhinestones and faux pearls, this mirror powder box is a stunner, suitable for a wedding day or everyday.

This fine vintage accessory dates from the late 1940s-early 1950s, and is in amazing condition for its age. This lovely piece was very gently handled by its previous owner. Vintage Vera Neumann blouse from the 1980s complete with shoulder pads and original tags is a wonderful example of the company's use of color. The color blocks pop to a very pleasing effect against a gray background.

The top has its original Vera tag with a plug for Woolite, a Vera ladybug label, and a "Crafted with Pride in U.S.A." tag. Created by magnate Roger Milliken in the early 1980s, the "Crafted with Pride" campaign was an effort to raise awareness of the dwindling textile & garment industry jobs in the U.S.A, and an attempt to get citizens to buy American.

Pair this cool blouse with jeans or a formal skirt for a radical vintage look.

A most unusual and very cool sterling silver cat brooch, this classic mid-century modern cat has a mother of pearl belly, and can be worn as a pin or as a pendant.

The cat brooch has a large loop along with a pin back making it easy to wear this piece of cat jewelry in a variety of ways.

Stamped "925" inside the pendant loop.

The brooch is in good vintage condition. The silver has a lovely oxidized patina from age. I have not polished up the silver, but you can do so with a gentle silver polish should you prefer a shiny silver to an oxidized silver look.

The brooch is 2 inches long by approximately 1 3/4 inches wide.

I didn't know what these were when I picked them up at an estate sale. They were in a dusty old tin in the garage. I found something about their shape very compelling, so I added them to my pile of treasures.

When I got home, I showed them to my husband who immediately identified them as old die tools from a tap & die kit. Machinists use such kits to cut & resize screw threads.

I think they are pretty cool. You can simply display them as an instant collection, or repurpose them into a fantastic creation or Steampunk oddity.

Two of the dies are marked "Handy." One is marked "G.T. & D. Corp." Three of them are marked "Start from this side."

Five of the dies are just shy of 1" in diameter and approximately 5/16" deep. The small one is just over 3/4" in diameter and 1/4" deep.

The dies have been used and show wear and age.

Old-fashion Christmas carol booklet, this vintage music book contains classic holiday songs. Along with the music and lyrics, the pamphlet provides a brief history about each carol. The booklet has a beautiful lithograph cover and a green tassel binding.

This presentation Christmas carol booklet was given to customers of The Provident Institution (now the Provident Bank), in Jersey City. The Provident was the first bank in Jersey City and New Jersey's oldest mutual savings bank.

Sheep & lamb nativity trio, display them with your creche set or a Christmas putz village scene.

Genuine vintage, the sheep are made of plaster and show wear including crackling paint and a small chip at the base of the medium-size animal. You can faintly see the remnants of the word "Italy" on the bottom of the little lamb.

The largest sheep measures approximately 3 inches long. The small sheep is approximately 1 1/2 inches long.

Blue and white cotton gingham ribbon with embroidered daisies, this amazing vintage textile was made in France exclusively for Hyman Hendler, the king of sewing trims and ribbon.

They truly do not make ribbon like this anymore!

The ribbon is new old stock and in excellent condition.

The Egyptian goddess Isis graces the center of this small antique brass tri-footed trinket dish made by the Benedict Manufacturing Company. The plate has a beautiful repeat edging pattern reminiscent of the Arts & Craft style of the time.

Advertised to the gift trade in Geyer's Stationer 1909 catalog, the 'Karnak Brass' line was said to embody "the Egyptian idea of utility and art," and "A distinction and a uniqueness in quality that make it attractive to the best classes of trade." Each piece in the line was hand finished with "antique brass and Nile green decoration". You can see traces of the "Nile" green on the feet of this piece.

Based in East Syracuse, New York, the Benedict Manufacturing Company, founded in 1894, produced decorative metal household items from copper, brass, silver plate & pewter until they closed shop in 1953.

This lovely little dish is stamped "Benedict" along with the company hallmark, the number "573," and "Karnak Brass." The piece is in good vintage condition and shows a marvelous patina of age. The patina is not uniform over the entire piece and is lighter and darker in some spots. There is a "streaking" that almost looks as though light is emanating from Isis's wing. My preference with antique pieces is not to polish them, as I believe the aging process enhances their appeal. I will leave polishing up to you. The dish has a few light scratches on the surface from wear.
