This set of four (4) Castleton China doubled handled soup bowls with saucers have a lovely maroon leaf and gold berry pattern around the rim of each ivory porcelain dish. This is Castleton's Essex Pattern made in the U.S.A. between 1958 and 1962.

This charming china pattern is increasingly hard to find. Mix and match this beautiful berry pattern with complementary dinnerware, or use it on evenings when soup is the main course. The saucers can also be used as bread, salad or dessert plates.

Soup bowls and saucers show some light wear on the rim design and have no chips. One of the bowls has a very fine crack in it that does not go through to the other side -- see photograph four.

Bowls and saucers are bottom marked "Castleton China Essex Made in U.S.A."

Unused vintage pressed cardboard punch board game is a rare find. Billed as the "Loony Party Game," and made by Silver Arrow Paper Products, circa 1920s, the small palm-sized pressboard game has 100 slips of paper concealed within slots. Players are instructed to take turns punching out a slip and "perform accordingly." "If one refuses he or she must stick opened hands in each ear and bray like a donkey."

The pressboard punch board game is in very good condition for its age. All paper slips are present. The game is missing its metal pushing devise.

How cool to sport a collection of antique 18th-century books on your library shelf. Perfect for office or home decor, these four (4) leather-bound volumes by T. Smollett (Tobias Smollett) are also historically significant.

The four volumes are part of Smollett's The Complete History of England published between 1757 and 1765 in London and "printed for James Rivington and James Fletcher, at the Oxford-Theatre; and R. Baldwin, at the Rofe, in Paternoster-row."

A Complete History of England from the Descent of Julius Caesar, to the Treaty of Aix La Chapelle, 1748. Containing the Transactions of One Thousand Eight Hundred and Three Years.
By T. Smollett, M.D.

This set includes:
Volume the First -- The Second Edition, 1758
Volume the Third -- The Second Edition, 1758
Volume the Fourth -- The Third Edition, 1758
Volume the Ninth -- The Third Edition, 1759

The volumes contain some illustrations, mostly portraits of kings.

Tobias Smollett (1721-1771) was a Scottish poet & writer best known for his picaresque novels such as The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751) & The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom (1753). Charles Dickens credited Smollett as an influence on this fiction. Smollett also translated Miguel de Cervantes's Don Quixote into English, but he considered The Complete History of English to be his greatest work.

What condition do you think you would be in if you were 256 years old? Well, these books are old and show their age. These books were printed before the use of acid wood pulp paper. Being printed on high-quality cotton or linen based paper, the pages are supple and are not crumbling. They are somewhat yellowed by age particularly at the edges. Some pages are dog eared, some pages have markings, spots & soiling. The fold-out map in the front of the first volume is torn but complete. There are two fold-out illustrations which are also torn, but complete. The leather covers are dry and crumbly. The bindings are in tact.

Three miniature salt spoons were brought back as souvenirs from a trip to Italy a long time ago. They were used as intended and then stashed away in a drawer for many years. One spoon has a fleur de lis topped handle, and the other two spoons are capped with Rome's Capitoline Wolf.

The spoons have lots of character and show signs of age, including a heavy patina. I have not attempted to clean the spoons.

Each spoon is marked "Italy" on the back. The spoons are metal, but I do not know if they are silver plate or a base metal.

Spoons measure approximately 2 3/4" long.

The classic image of a dove is formed from intertwined hands suggesting peace and cooperation among the war-torn countries of post World War 2 Europe. This striking political propaganda poster was a winner in the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living poster contest.

Held in 1950, the contest was sponsored by the European Recovery Program (ERP), more commonly known as The Marshall Plan. Over 10,000 artists from European nations submitted entries to the poster contest with a theme of internationalism & cooperation. A panel of judges selected 25 winning posters.

The ERP or Marshall Program (1948 - 1951), conceived by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during WW II & Truman's Secretary of State, sought to politically stabilize & rebuild the economies of war-torn European countries while hindering the spread of Communism.

What did he carry in this pigskin leather document briefcase when he traveled to American from Sweden in the late 1940s? We will never know, but you can own this awesome vintage attaché case and fill it with your own important documents.

The case has two generous inner compartments, two front compartments and a snap-down plastic-covered leather identification tag.

This circa 1940s pigskin briefcase is in good condition for its age showing typical wear including scuffs, dings, cracking leather. The leather could use a good cleaning and condition, but as some prefer the patina of age, I will leave that up to the buyer. The metal latches are scuffed but in good working order. The interior is clean.

Case measures 17 1/2" x 11" expandable to 12 1/4" x 2" deep expandable to 3".

This "Original Art Kerchief" handkerchief is "strictly for show not for blow." "Created, sculpted, and painted by Artists Colony of Greenwich Village, N.Y.C.," this is a rare New York City souvenir handkerchief.

Hand cut in the shape of the map of the United States, the handkerchief has the abbreviations for each state, and "New York City" handwritten across the top. New York State and the island of Manhattan are hand painted orange along with a red star denoting New York City. The handkerchief is outlined in gold.

The fashions and hairstyles on the label date the handkerchief to the 1940s. Could this have been an attempt to raise money to pay the rent on the colony's studio space on the south side of Washington Square Park? The colony was evicted from its studio space when its lease expired at the end of 1948. New York University, the property's owner, tore the studio building down and built their law center on the site.

Original label is present but not attached to the handkerchief. There is no fabric content tag. My guess is that it's made from a nylon fabric. The handkerchief is in very good vintage condition. There are a few stray black marks which look to be from the making process. There are a few very small tears near the top on the gold edging. The handkerchief does not have a hem.

Handkerchief measures approximately 10 1/2" long by 10".

An interesting bit of vintage Cold War era anti-Communist propaganda, Mind and Spirit in the Land of Soviets was published in 1947 by the Catholic Information Society.

Part of a series of Catholic booklets that professed to be "The most fearless and factual exposé of Communism ever published," the small pamphlet appears to never have been circulated. It is in very good vintage condition showing some shelf wear at the corners.

The pamphlet's cover has a photograph of a Soviet May Day military display outside Lenin's Tomb.

A member of the N.J. State Building and Construction Trades Council attended the labor union's 71st annual convention at the Shelburne Hotel in Atlantic City in 1975 and brought home his delegate badge, stashed it in a drawer and forgot about it.

This little bit of history is an interesting relic from a time when labor unions were strong and Atlantic City was on the verge of being transformed by the gambling boom. Times sure have changed.

The red ribbon badge is in good vintage condition. The metal name plate and metal disk have various marks of the Bastian Brothers Co, Rochester, N.Y. The ribbon is printed in gold with the convention information including the dates of the event and the location. The metal disk has a red, gold and white inset panel with the council's name and a world globe with two handshaking and the latin phrase "Labor Omnia Vincit," a phrase from Virgil's Georgics meaning "Labor Conquers All."

Badge measures approximately 4 1/4" long x 2" at its widest point.

Solid copy of Bill Nye's Chestnuts has a decorative brownish rust color cover with gold lettering on the spine and a lovely cover design. Edgar Wilson Nye (1850-1896) was a popular American journalist and humorist based in Laramie City, then part of the Wyoming Territory.

This is a genuine antique book from the late 19th century. It is in very good condition for its age. Binding is tight. Small numerical notation in blue ink on the front endpaper. Pages tanned with age. Noticeable wear at the top and base of the spine.

Small ceramic bird figurine fits nicely in the palm of your hand.


The miniature red bird is vintage from 1960s. He has his original "Made in Japan" sticker on the bottom. The figurine is in very good condition with no chips and no cracks. There is a tiny speck of paint loss on the bottom. The figure has a few dark spots which appear to be under the glaze.

Lovely high-quality vintage Echo scarf with a bold orange, purple & white geometric design, this 1960s retro fashion accessory is sure to punch up any outfit.

This antique black crochet purse has steel cut beads and an expandable gate top metal closure with a fleur de lis design.

The steel cut micro beads on this chatelaine purse are arranged in a pleasing geometric pattern. I tested the beads with a magnet and they are indeed steel.

Overall, the purse is in remarkable condition for 100+ year-old lady's bag. Some of the steel beads show rust. All beads appear to be present. The crochet work bag is in very good condition and is securely sewn to the gate-top closure. The expandable metal opening is tarnished but in good working order. The top of the closure looks as though it may at one time have had black paint or enameling.

This vintage booklet is part of a series of anti-Communist pamphlets distributed by the Catholic Information Society which advertised itself as "The most fearless and factual exposé of Communism ever published."

Vintage world geography school textbook is filled with information about the world on the brink of the Great Depression. Published in 1928 by The McMillan Company, the world atlas has over 30 full-page color maps.

The book covers Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Africa, Polar Regions, and Latin American, as well as general world geographic information.

This former school book hails from school No. 7 in Bayonne, N.J. It has a Bayonne school system bookplate pasted on the front endpaper.


The book is in good condition showing typical wear for a school textbook and its age. The cover is worn around the edges and spine, the corners are bumped, there are a few stray pen & pencil marks on the back cover, and soiling. The endpapers are browned with age. A few pages at the back of the book have some smudges, but over all this is a good, clean with beautiful color maps.

Fibber McGee and the Wistful Vista Mystery - A Hilarious Party Game by Milton Bradley Company - is a game based on the popular radio comedy show Fibber McGee and Molly which aired on NBC from 1935 through 1959. This game set has a 1940 copyright and comes with an assortment of cards with phrases, game chips, and an instruction story book.

The chosen game narrator reads the story, and at a blank in the story a player pulls a phrase card and reads it, inserting a hilarious or bizarre element to the tale. The game reminds me of Mad Libs, the phrasal template game created in the late 1950s. Could the originator of Mad Libs gotten his idea from Fibber?

I do not think the game is complete. The instruction story booklet refers to "a number of printed cards," "a flock of colored counters," and "30 blank cards." There are 9 blank cards in the box.
