Back in the 1920s, this medical book on the topic of birth control provided information to the general public on the once tabu subject of birth control. Containing a series of brief chapters by medical leaders of the day on various aspects of the subject, the book covers such topics as "Experiences in Contraception," and "Birth Control and Population." The book was quite radical in its time.

Published in 1928, the book is in very good vintage condition. The cover shows typical wear around the edges and on the spine. There is some ghosting on right side front end paper a piece of paper must have been placed for many years. Please see photograph three (3). Pages are clean.

Old school wood pencils from Eberhard Faber, these Elementary 6370 are retro, well made, and hard to find. You can own seven of these awesome vintage graphite pencils.

Each painted green wood pencil is marked "Eberhard Faber Elementary 6370 U.S.A." All but one is also marked "Woodclinched." This pencil is also a slightly lighter shade of green. The pencils are in very good condition and have never been sharpened.

A bit thicker than the average pencil, this writing tool was designed for school children.

Founded in 1861, Eberhard Faber manufactured their pencils in N.Y.C. on the East River on the site that is now the United Nations Building. I've found advertisements for the Elementary 6370 dating back as far as 1920. This batch is circa 1950s - 1960s.

Pencils are 7" long and have a 3/8" diameter.

Antique book filled with outlandish ideas about reading facial features to discern character traits, Physiognomy by Leila Lomax is a curious read. Between the decorative green covers, Lomax puts forth unscientific information that claims will teach the reader, "How to read character in the face and to determine the capacity for love, business, or crime."

Physiognomy, also referred to as anthroposcopy, is an old idea in the history of human thought dating back at least to ancient Greece. The concept of physiognomy experienced a resurgence in interest and scholarly attention in the late 18th century and 19th century. The pseudoscience of physiognomy is related to phrenology and palmistry.

This is a rare book and would make a great gift for the collector of early psychology, quack medicine, or pseudoscience items. The antique book published in 1906 has a decorative binding and title page. The book is in very good condition showing some rubbing and wear on the cover and spine. Endpapers and pages, although browned with age, are clean. Binding is tight.

The volume includes an advertising list of titles & descriptions of other books published by Penn Publishing including Magic, Graphology, Astrology, Practical Palmistry, and Slips of Speech.

The small volume measures approximately 6" x 4 1/2".

Rare antique radio parts in original box!

Fresh from the estate of a prominent radio and television innovator and crystal radio enthusiast, this set of 3 type 4D precision radio frequency transformer coils are in their original box. Two of the three coil have never been unwrapped. The three coils appear to be unused.

I am not a radio or electronics expert, and have no idea if these components are still viable for restoration projects or new inventions. I'm selling this set of antique coils for their visual and historical interest. They look great on display! And, they might even work.

Box shows wear from storage and age including rubbing chipping, and paper loss.

The coils were manufactured by the Acme Products Co, Boston, Mass, exclusively for The Precision Coil Co., 209 Centre Street, New York City.

I found a reference to The Precision Coil Co. in the December 1926 edition of Popular Radio.

Box measures 7 inches long x 3 1/2 inches wide x 2 1/4 inches deep.

Coils measure 2 3/4 inches long and have a 2 inch diameter.

Part two of P. V. N. Myers's Ancient History for Colleges and High Schools, A History of Rome is filled with beautiful illustrations and colorful maps.

Published in 1898 by Ginn & Company, Boston, the book has paper covered metal corner protectors from The Bible Institute in Chicago.

In good condition showing typical aging for 110+ year old book, the volume has some scuffing and wear on the red cloth binding and yellowing to the pages. Paper is in good condition and is not crumbling. A few pages are slightly crumple near the top.

The book has 45 illustrations, 6 colored maps, 6 sketch maps, & 3 table/chronological summaries.

Hand-painted 3D wood windmill plate from Holland, this vintage travel souvenir is so cool. A fabulous piece of Netherlands folk art, the windmill blades turn, and the cottage scene is so charming.

The piece is signed by the artist and has a hook on the back. In excellent vintage condition, the picture back is stamped "Hand Painted Made in Holland G.P.J." and "No. 7." Someone penciled "1954" on the back of the plate and "1. 47."

A curious piece of American college history, this fraternity and sorority "scrapbook" fan has scraps from various universities and Greek letter societies.

Acquired from the estate of an 103 year-old woman, the scrap fan documents some of the academic institutions, sororities, and fraternities where she socialized during her college years in the 1920s.

This fan is a rare piece of ephemera and is in very good condition. There are several places on the paper fan where scraps have fallen or been torn off. The wood fan sticks are in excellent condition. The fan has a metal loop for hanging.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, ladies would sometimes make scrap fans as mementos of the various places they visited. The few fans I've seen have always had mostly a college university focus.

The fan features a scrap from Simmons College, an all women's college founded in 1899. Scraps include:

Theta Epsilon
The University of Maine

Cool old vintage radio part, this is a Clarostat Controls and Resistors Automatic Line Voltage Regulator made in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Fresh from the estate of a prominent radio & television innovator and crystal radio enthusiast, this piece of radio electronics history is in its original packaging and looks great on display.

I'm not a radio or electronics expert. I have no idea if this regulator works or if you should even use it as intended, as it is probably not up to today's electrical codes.

The regulator is marked:

Box measures 4 1/4 inches X 2 inches X 2 inches.

Regulator is 4 Inches tall and has a 1 3/4 inch diameter.

It is rare to find a full, unused bolt of Corbett Brothers Quality Ribbon on a spool with their signature black cat label. So rare, that I am selling the spool complete with its 10 yards of green grosgrain ribbon.

The Corbett Brothers headquartered their ribbon business at Fourth Avenue at 18th Street in New York City, with a branch in St. Etienne, France, and a textile mill in Paterson, N.J.

This beautiful grosgrain ribbon is 4 1/2" wide and is wound on the spool with a protective paper backing. I unwound the spool just a few feet to take photographs.

The ribbon is in very good vintage condition. The spool and label show shelf wear. The label black cat label is creased and as a few small tears as well as some minimal paper loss. The bottom label is crumbled, torn and worn around the edges with some paper loss. This label identifies the ribbon as "Made in the United States."

Spool is approximately 5 1/8" tall with a 3 1/4" diameter.

This vintage crochet afghan was handmade by someone who understood color combinations and advanced crocheting techniques. Using a variety of crochet stitches in single and double color patterns, the maker expertly wove an amazing blanket. The colors include two shades of blue, red, black, beige, & gold. I love the blue and black border!

Handmade vintage textiles remind me of the continuity between generations. Forty years or so ago, someone took the time to make a blanket for her family. She most likely learned the stitches she used to make the afghan from her mother or grandmother, who learned the stitches from her mother, and on it goes back into history. Crochet is an ancient art and this afghan is a fine 1970s example of that art.

Made from sturdy and vibrant acrylic yarn, this blanket is in good vintage condition. No holes, tears or fading. The blanket has some pilling. Pilling may be removed with a sweater shaver.

Measurements: 66" long x 48" wide.
